Driving my 4.0 GTS this morning, took a RH sweeper and as I finished the turn I heard a bang from the rear, nit too loud. Immediately all the warning lights on the dashboard came on, but when I released the clutch it started back up, but running roughly. I only traveled a block or so and it died again and would not restart. Message said, " low oil pressure. " my initial thought is oil pump failure, then ai started thinking about the con rod debacle. I took delivery April 1, build date January 3. 3100 miles on it. No oil slick, no fluids visible on the ground or underneath the car. Porsche roadside service sent a rollback and its at the dealer now. I'm a bit disappointed but recognize anything mechanical can fail. I hope I'll know what happened next week.

Man really sorry to hear that. I actually have similar mileage and I think a similar build date. My car was not recalled.

I often wonder where do you have them tow the car to if the P dealer is closed when this happens? Like on a Sunday?

The owners manual states that if a dealer is closed they will take it to a secure facility until the nearest dealer opens, or the dealer of your choice should you wish to pay.

I had an engine failure too, I've been out of a car for three weeks. Even the dealership couldn't get it to turn. Nearly 5k miles, mostly freeway. Broken in as close to what AP recommended.

Yes, they just don't know when they will get an engine. Nothing new as of Friday. Latest details are that the regional rep is reviewing my case at this point.

can you tell us more about the failure? Was it related to the connector rods?

Can't say for sure, but like the OP's issue, there was a sudden loss of oil pressure. When I pulled over to the side of the freeway, I got a message to turn off the ignition and try it again. I only tried once and I got the same message... no oil pressure. When the car was inspected by the dealership, they couldn't get the engine to turn either. They drained the oil and saw all these metal shavings, then basically just ordered a new engine at that point. Problem was, there was only one in inventory, and was already heading elsewhere. The dealership has no new information at this point.

My car stopped at the bottom of the hill below my house. I got a friend's truck and towed it to the top in front of my house. When the rollback arrived and I was getting it positioned I tried the starter again and the engine still turned over but sounded strange. Thankfully the dealership is open on Saturday and the tow arrived an hour before they closed.

That's rather bad given how few of these cars were sold. Could it be the conrod issue is larger than Porsche thought?

Or teething issues of a new engine design? Disappointing for sure.

I will also say I used the auto start/stop maybe 5-10% of the time. Only really used it on the freeway, and occasionally.

I do not use the auto start stop, nor the cylinder de-activation. My car has 3100 miles, 6 months old. I've never over-reved it either, broken in according to AP's recommendations. No oil slick, just a dead engine.
