Spyder RS driving/ownership impressions

Just past 800 miles, so increased my max rpm to 8k. I also have started to explore more of the throttle; not wot, but starting to go deeper. Man, the sound between 5k and up with deep throttle application is just heavenly. It's not an exotic sound like ferrari or lambo na scream, but very motorsports. Sounds like a race car coming out of a corner and heading down the straights. It's lovely!

This is one of the best sounds in car-dom, IMO, and based on the YT reviewer feedback (and continuing / growing owner feedback), I'm not alone in thinking this. It is also why I think Porsche will feel they need to duplicate this experience in some future model, probably some 911 variant. This is too good to leave to a limited production specialty model that isn't even a supercar or their flagship (911) line. The next speedster has something like this, I'd bet money.
You heard it here first. lol
Or...would it be too humiliating for a feature to flow "down" from the lowly mid-engined platform to the illustrious 911, and thus they will let it slip into the darkness of the past? I could actually see that as logic used.

Put a couple of hundred miles on it this past few days.
Really love this car and it really makes me question whether to keep my gt3t. It’s smaller, feels more nimble, the ride quality is superb. If it didn’t have this top (which is really not that big of a deal) I would daily it over my other Pcars. It probably one of my top 2 pcars I’ve owned.
the only thing for 911 owners I think after being used to rear wheel steer now it’s noticeable when a car doesn’t have it. Would it be nice, yes, but it also makes the car feel more like an old school sports car. Don’t miss not having a manual in this at all.
As future cars move to digital dashes, ***** instead of levers, and hybrid this is really the best last analog car to have.

^ Thanks for posting. I am on the fence between a SRS or waiting for a .2 Touring. Already having a 911 TTS, I’m not sure another 911 fits the bill.
It seems everyone is really enjoying their SRS so far!

yep I have a 991.2 targa gts in my garage too, the gt3t is definitely #3 on my list of keys to pick up and go for a drive right now. Could change when I miss the manual again but traffic has been so horrendous it’s hard to miss the manual

They will keep making versions of the GT3 (with ICE) for a while, so you could always get one later. From everything that folks have said about the SRS, it's THE car to have forever.

I picked up my SRS last weekend. For me, it’s absolutely a better daily compared to my 992.1 GT3T.
But strangely, both of these cars pale is comparison to the C8 Z06 I bought a month ago. It may be due to the magnetic suspension or the flat plane crank V8, but I’m finding my first Corvette to be far better for my needs.
I hope something hasn’t broken in my head. :-)

Can you you elaborate a bit more why this is so, would love to hear your feedback.

SRS vs Z06: The Z06 suspension does a way better job of switching from glassy smooth to aggressive. And add in a chassis that can switch from being snappy to relaxed (a lot of it through steering feel), an engine that is more torquey but has good linear power delivery, and an exhilarating exotic soundtrack…the result is that I can slice through miles easier and have a better B-road and track day experience.

Three Wheelin'
Got the top error message today. I haven't seen anyone post a resolution. Has anyone had this happen and know what the solution was or does the dealer have to do something? Not going to keep me from driving it but it's annoying since you can't clear it.

I recently sold my 2023 C8 Z06 Conv. (If anyone wants to buy it, the greedy dealer who bought it from my wholesaler has reduced the price by $30k so far and the price is not less than wha to sold it for.)
Comparing the ride quality to Spyder RS is not really fair. We are talking 10 extra inches in wheelbase from car to car.
Yes the Z06 rides great. Almost Rolls-Royce-like. But the reasons I sold mine were many:
(1) The car is gigantic. Huge. To me, it does not have the dimensions of a proper sports car.
(2) The steering is terrible. There is hardly any feedback or communication whatsoever. Artificially firm? Yes. But it doesn’t feel European at all. Big time miss here.
(3) Depreciation. I didn’t feel like taking the ride all the way down to $100k.
(4) Interior is cramped.
(a) Hardly room for a piece of paper behind the seats. And no convenient way to access the area behind the seats (no lever to move seat back forward — it’s the motorized movement only).
(b) Long travel distance between edge of the car and centerline of seat. Not so easy to enter and exit.
(c) The Great Wall of GM segregates the passenger. My passenger didn’t really enjoy the experience. And the high elevation of the wall makes the interior feel smaller.
(d) It’s nice to have two trunks. But in C8, the contents will cook to about 160 degrees since GM is too foolish to install real heat shielding material in either place. We don’t have that problem in Boxster. Warm-ish, yes. But not hot hot.
(5) It’s heavy. If you look under the car, there are many dozens of gigantic hex fasteners which summarily really weigh down the car. This phenomenon exists throughout the design. In European cars, the fasteners are plastic or the design is just better.
(6) Gear ratios are terrible. The car essentially has a 5-speed transmission because top speed is reached in 5th gear. What’s the point of having 8 gears if 6-8 are overdrive gears? The reduction in RPMs after a shift is many thousands. Doesn’t make much sense.
Nice car, and an interesting car to those who already have a nice collection. To me, it’s not a sports car that is anywhere near as good as my 2023 R8 or any Porsche, but an interesting car. I recommend just renting one for a few days. I wish I had had the patience to do so before making the decision to buy one. My “curiosity” cost me quite a bit of money because that market went straight into the toilet.
