Lotus Emira vs Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0 Reviews
#16
The reviews were mostly what was expected, IMO. Jethro's review was a little more negative than I anticipated, but at least he's not sugar coating his verdict. The takeaways from Evora vs Cayman reviews have always been kind of similar (interior aside)...Evora was the better damped car and more "pure" in its steering feel etc. But the Cayman was superior in every other aspect. This seems to be more of the same. I have an Emira inbound (for the fall), and feel it will be an interesting addition/experience.
Lotus is better damped because they use Ohlin as their OEM shocks. Porsche's in house PASM just isn't that great. It's not bad, but it isn't playing at the top levels of damping these days.
Double wishbone F and R doesn't hurt the Lotus either, while the Cayman is stuck with struts all around.

I feel very comfortable to compare Lotus with Porsche after having owned a number of Porsche GT3s, 981 GT4, 718 Spyder. I thoroughly enjoyed my Lotus Evora 400 which I had over 11000 miles. Its handling (which is hydraulic), suspension (even there is no setting to be changed) and chassis is by far the most rewarding. In fact, I dare to say it is slightly better than my 458 which I have 13000 miles as of a week ago.
I can only imagine how great Emira is. The reason I did not have it ordered is because of ADM. I don't think it can command ADM at all. The only car I ever paid ADM was the GT4RS. There is a reason why many car magazine commented Lotus to be a benchmark for many marquees when it comes to handling.

Geely and basically an exige with a different body - run away.
Its not who makes the shock absorbers - its who best understands wheel rates and chassis torsion - this will be a mid handling car relative to previous non-geely efforts.
I have driven the Alpine on track, road and in a rally sprint - its fun in the sense you can throw it around but at the end of the day its a 1.8t masquerading as a performance car.
The lotus 430 Cup was the pick of the lotus production offerings - since then, mutton dressed as lamb ----> Evora and Evira.
I would take the 4L GTS everyday of the week over this............(keep in mind the 3.5L supercharged Camry engine has been in the Exige forever).
I look forward to the inevitable track test and disappointment - thats what happened with the A110 - it just gets destroyed. Double wishbones don't make up for a poor engine and poor gear box.

I just put Ohlins on my GTS and it drives so much better. Car is lower but still doesn't scrape and handles bumps without the jarring effect despite much stiffer springs. It is actually more comfortable than stock at certain settings probably all due to the difference in damping. Handles much closer to how I wanted as well - more planted, stiffer, sharper, and feels more agile. Don't miss PASM at all.

That sounds like the F8 suspension. As said above, it will be costly. Pardon my ignorance, do you keep any control of the suspension (eg normal, sport, track) or does it adapt as needed?
