Default 982.2 or is the 982 actually the "981.2"

Wondering what all of your thoughts on whether or not PAG will release a 982.2 or do you think the 982 is actually the "981.2" in form? Since PAG has said that they want Porsche to be about 80% fully electric or hybrid by 2030, wondering if PAG will build the 982 until MY23 and then introduce a brand new platform? Let's call it 983 for MY24 and then slowly introduce either fully electric and/or hybrid by 2030 or will they just continue 982 with 982.2 and then say MY29 introduce say 983 to deal with fully electric/hybrid plan that PAG wants?

The 982 really is a 981.2; it's the same platform, electronic architecture, and interior as the 991.2. It's possible they'll make a 981.3/982.2 based on the current platform akin to what they've been doing in repeated refreshes of the Macan. However, it sounds like they'll be going fully electric for the next generation 718 in 2024.

Yes, I think there will be 983. Pure guess. I suppose they'll "modernize" it and stuff more digital garbage, like gauges/shifter etc.

But then improve in other departments. S can get former 2.5 GTS engine (extra ponies). 4.0 will also get a minor boost. GTS 4.0 will get GT4's power. GT4, if still available, will get another 15hp or sth....

Update on this, please. I thought the current Cayman is the last version not full electric, so no 982.2.

The current 982 will be built until the MY25 EV follow-on. Only “updates” will be special editions or trims such as Spyder RS.

There won’t be a .2

I know that the messaging has been that the EV Cayman/Boxster replacement is due in 2025; however, I wonder if they won't offer a 982.2 in parallel, at least in certain markets. I could envision a minor interior and exterior refresh (removal of traditional buttons and PSM updates, updated bumper designs, and maybe even some suspension tweaks). I find it hard to believe they will just end production of the 4.0 cars, if the demand is there and it still meets current emissions standards (Euro 7 standards have not been finalized for 2025).

PAG has been very clear and unambiguous about the follow-on as EV only in public statements.

718 smallest and declining model line.

4.0 demand? Doesn’t move the PAG needle for demand signal or regulatory pressure. If the 718 had Macan like sales numbers, then perhaps…

everything the same except all those pesky complete engine changes (2.0, 2.5, 2.5 GTS, 4.0, none of which were present for the 981), which would be cause enough alone for the new moniker.

Wasn’t that also the case for the 987.2, 997.2, and 991.2?

imho not the samething. moving from a NA flat 6 to a slightly larger NA flat 6 is not the same as moving to a turbo 4. it *could* be said for the 4.0 but that is another discussion (and engine) entirely.

Quick Reply: 982.2 or is the 982 actually the "981.2"
