GT4 badge placement

GT4 badge placement
Just sharing my experience. I wanted to see if I could reuse my original GT4 badge after getting PPF. My installer didn't create a template unfortunately, so I was left wondering how to get the letters in the exact placement in relation to each other. I didn't want to eyeball it since the slightest difference can end up looking odd. Hopefully this is useful for anyone OCD about this kind of stuff.
First, I needed an actual logo to reference. I spent a lot of time searching the internet which I found a ton of GT4 logos, but all looked like poor recreations with strange proportions. Either the "G" was too tall, or the "4" too big. I couldn't count on those as good references. I also couldn't find anything official from Porsche website, or marketing materials. I felt a bit defeated, and then realized there were a bunch of GT4 logos to reference on the car itself! I thought to myself, if there was one logo that had to be accurate, it's the one right in front of your face all the time in the instrument cluster. So I took a photo of it, brought it in to the computer and resized the bar of the "T" to be exactly 39mm (which matches the physical letter) when printed at 100%. You now have a physical guide and all you need to is place each letter in place, and tape the whole thing together so it won't move.
I still need to figure out the right placement on the bumper, but at least now I feel confident that the logo is right on. Cheers!

Final letters in place. Just tape together.

You can reuse your badging after PPF. That's what my guy did with the Spyder badge after doing PPF. They just used 3M double sided tape meant for it. It's a bit thicker than OEM but all they trimmed back any excess and then any squeeze out was pushed back with a Q tip.

You couldn’t just buy a new badge?

Then there is the "model designation delete" option used almost uniformly in Europe. The only model designation I have on my GT cars is the discreet little metal piece on the grill of my GT3Touring.

I always make my own template before removing badges if I plan to put them back on, whether in the OEM or other locations. Just put a piece of paper over the top, rub it with a pencil and then lie the characters on top of it. Use a thin strip of painter's tape over the replacements that extend an inch on each side, flip it over to remove the adhesive covering, and then flip it once again while holding the extended ends of the tape to apply.

You could call your dealer, explain what happened, and ask if they have the template. They might even do it as a courtesy. Some dealers are good that way.
