I'm assuming this is the early engineering solution and doesn't include input from the styling team. The reaction, in this thread, is pretty unanimous, so it seems hard to believe the Porsche designers don't also believe this is ugly.

It will look better. I would take it as is for the driving experience. I don't plan on ever driving it with the roof on anyways.

What I don't get for the Spyder is why ruin the lines with the top up by removing the sails as I think the sails are a very critical element of the design of the Spyder along with the humps.

The Spyder is a very compromised design when it comes to the RS ethos since it won't have the swan neck rear wing. Because of no swan neck rear wing, it won't have all of the other front aero bits needed to balance the downforce of the car so the aero elements are out of the question.

Then with the convertible, there won't be a way to stylistically incorporate an intake path such as the GT4 RS where it's right next to your ear. In this case, why remove the sails, as a weird looking intake port when they can just use the existing intake that is there now and route the intake path up from there? I know some have said that because the air it hotter from that area, it doesn't provide the lower temp that the engineers desire so that's why it was moved to the rear quarter window on the GT4 RS. I guess on the Spyder RS since it's not going to be able to match the outright performance since it won't have all of the aero bits, I think giving up a little in hp because the intake air is a little warmer then desired will be met with much better enthusiasm vs removing the sails and putting that cow-bell-looking-thing-that's-laying-on-its-side there for the air intake.

Some have said that these prototype have been designed to be ugly on purpose so maybe those that are in the know and reported the Spyder RS being real months ago can go back to your sources and ask about the sails and air intake element.

I guess we can wait until the official launch to see what they will actually name it ... I'll bet its not "RS" ... but then I have been consistently wrong so it probably will be ...

It will look fine with the top down.

Top up is challenging….only the mother could love?

Yup, these prototypes are "designed" to be ugly and to hide the actual truth underneath but in seeing what they're hiding on the Spyder RS, it seems they got rid of the sails and that totally changes the look of the car especially from a side profile.

We will all need to wait and see the final product before final judgment.

If nothing else, it gives us all more reason to be on RL to discuss something that I know I'll never have a chance to get cuz it'll be marked up so much, they might as well have said that all of the body panels have been switched out to unobtainium or vibranium for that matter.

^^^^^^Definitely no to that. Sorry but not sorry.

I'll take the Spyder RS without the sails and the cow bell intake design anyday over that abomination.

Glad to see the GT4RS have a convertible counterpart. I will hold off my opinion until I see the final release build. Don’t think 95% of the people here will see this Spyder RS in person. Most will be locked up in collections and never driven most likely.
Plus, it will be easily a $300k+ car if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on 1.

this - but I would observe that they "had" to delete the butresses/sails/fins as that is where the new intake ducts are ...
