Let's imagine that the Super Special Spyder (that's what I am calling it!) is along the lines of what @Adrift and others have considered to be the proper sendoff for the ICE Boxster. Is it possible that the car is SO special to Porsche that they're somehow developing it in total secret? I ask about the 918 because that's arguably the last "super special" Porsche that was developed in recent memory. I don't know how much they showed that car off in mule form to the public - but it at least raises the possibility that Porsche is being very intentional with the lack of Super Special Spyder mule sightings.
YES google "918 spy shots"

You buying that?

Can you see them retiring the spiritual successor to the 550 that friggin saved the company without a big send off? I just don’t. That’s the heritage marketing gold they love.
nope...

Does seeing one in the flesh at PECLA two weeks ago constitute a mule, or just a mock-up?

Would be strange to see it first in US soil than in Europe or the Ring, but after the GT4RS anything is possible....any Photos?

sadly I didn’t take any photos, but it was exactly this one:
EDIT: now that I think about it, it was this one because I remember the blue wheels.
EDIT 2: Herp derp, I just realized you were talking about a Spyder RS and not the GT4RS.

I'll admit I was wrong in my "prediction" (if that's what is was) or conviction/skepticism that the GT4RS would not have a GT3 engine ... so anything is possible ... but the absence of any spy shots of a mule testing really raises my level of doubt - there have been many "special" limited edition (perhaps with the exclusion of "cosmetic" specials) Porsches' before, and *all* of them have been seen in the wild prior to launch...

dropping a GT3 engine and 6MT gearbox (assuming they do - because that will cost extra R&D over the work done on the PDK-S for the 4RS) into the Spyder is not cosmetic ...

I guess we will wait and see (for how long) if the "cleaning ladies" are right or wrong ... ?

p.s would a 500bhp 718 Spyder do to the Speedster what the 991.2 GT3 Touring did to the 911R?

Sorry, I don't follow the 911 thing... do what?

And even before I see your answer, I doubt a 718 Spyder buyer is a 911 Speedster buyer.

I was/am, and I am still keeping my eyes open for the perfect Speedster for me. At the time they came out I was waiting on a Targa GTS that I ordered so I got that, and then ordered a Spyder, but I will buy a Speedster when I find what I want. As the old saying goes, "There is an exception to every rule."

I can't ask my cleaning lady specifics but this is my prediction based off what she told me as I mentioned earlier, lets see what actually happens:

-Debut later this year.
-New yellow as the communication color.
-PDK only most likely but very very small chance of a manual.
-Could be a limited car like the Speedster, if it is expect a big MSRP increase(say bye bye to us normal people getting one).
-Another cleaning lady did tell me it won't be a "limited" car but seems to be up in the air right now.
-Design elements/inspiration from the 981 Bergspyder(I can't ask for details about this point but I assume its not the front of the car and if it was my bet I'd focus on the rear of the car for the air intake bits).

That is the conclusion of what I have been able to source from my cleaning lady and she refuses to go into any more details.

I’ll take a”very very small chance of a MT” over none, any day.

Is “new yellow” on the pts palette?

I’m guessing air intakes integrated into the humps, somehow; loss of some or all of trunk for storage.

I think you've got the right one Bob - the non bloated one!

The engine is ahead of the trunk (which is over the transmission), the engine cover is right behind the back window, exactly where the top folds on to... so the trunk should be safe.

Yup. Been saying there will be Bergspyder influence for sure. Unfortunately a lot of the credible sources on the board don't post much inside info anymore, but the above is consistent with what they've said previously.
