Removing rear calipers on 718 GT4 - brake line bracket
I replaced the rotors on my GT4 over the weekend with Girodisc replacements. This, obviously, requires removing the calipers.
It was fairly straightforward, but it sure is a lot of work to unclip all the connectors from the brake line bracket. Do people really do this every time they replace pads (which also requires removing the calipers)? It feels like the rubber grommets would get worn out in short order.
I noticed there is a small sub-plate which looks like it would allow you remove the brake line from the larger bracket, and thus remove the caliper without removing the rest of the bracket - however, the sub-plate is fastened to the bracket by a Torx screw which is completely blocked by the brake line itself! On both sides, there was just no way for me to get a Torx bit past the brake line to remove the fastener.
Am I missing anything here?

Did you check on the 981 GT4 forum first?

I have Tarett caliper studs and brake line bracket studs that make the caliper on/off much easier. Highly recommended.

I had the Tarett caliper studs and brake line bracket studs on my last car (718 Boxster S).
I went with the Girodisc studs this time. They are better designed than the Tarrett and the install and eventual removal will be easier.
The brake line bracket studs were nice to have I guess, but they make maneuvering that damn bracket even harder because you have to lift it off the studs before moving it sideways at all. We'll see how long it takes before I strip the threads on the uprights on the GT4.

The Spiegler line 991GT3/981GT4 kit leaves enough room for the front caliper to remove and replace pads and discs.

Because you're clueless about the car and its facelift.
1) I have 718 GT4.
2) I had 981 GT4
3) Brake line routing is NOT different.
4) Reference to 981 GT4 is valuable.

I also did the Spiegler lines this weekend with Ferodo DS3.12...yeah the rear one is a PITA.....on the 981 my rear brake lines went all the way to the caliper. This time they just connect to the small hard line on the caliper.
Saw the torx screw on the line holder but since I was replacing the lines I just unscrew the hard line from the caliper...for the future will remove the brake line holder plate in order to manipulate the caliper.
But wish the SS line would go all the way to the caliper.

I have seen pictures of the bracket on 981 where it looks like the same configuration is used, but the head of the Torx is on top of the bracket, where it is trivial to access from above.
Which way does it face on your car?
