Gear 1-2 grind

Yep, this is exactly my experience. Shift 1 to 2 is ruthless with the clutch timing - you have to get it right. I have to say, this transmission is really amazing in feel and I have a GTS with the “long throw” shifter. Generally the gearbox has a wonderful mechanical feel IMO.

Maybe the GTS versions are different? Or assembly is slightly different? Anyway, I have not experienced any grinds at all.

If you have no grinds so far, keep up the good work!

I've has several grinds going from 1st to 2nd. It was totally random and non-repeatable (2020 GT4). Then all of a sudden at around 5,000km it stopped. I'm at over 12,000km now and its never happened again. As cheap insurance, I had the gearbox oil changed before I put it away this past November. I'll knock it up to break-in I guess.

I have a 2016 981 GT4 and experienced some 1 - 2 "grinds" after I had the new gearbox installed under warranty.
At first, I thought that it was my fault for not having my seat in the proper position. But I still experienced the "grind" occasionally after setting up the seat closer.
As I put more and more miles on the new gearbox, the "grind" seemed to go away . . . but I'm not sure if it is because of more mileage or if it is because I am more "aware" of the grind and am taking measures to prevent it.
I am now putting my clutch foot to the floor in a bit of an "exaggeration" and that seems to be the cure. - - - That having been said, I've also noticed that not pulling down the shift lever into 2nd (closer to my body) and being kind of lazy about pulling the shifter straight down the gate, can also cause a "grind".

2020 GT4 and (07/2020 build) - Grinds from 1->2 ever so slightly every now and then. Also have one occasion when the gear didn't engage at all and kicked back but that may have been my fault.

Now at approx 2800 miles. 2 grinds that I had previously posted about both sloppy shifts

I've never had a problem grinding gears in other cars, including my previous 997, 991, and 987, but I'm getting it occasionally in this car. As some have mentioned, it can be completely eliminated by waiting a split second after making sure the clutch is all the way in before shifting, but it makes me nervous every time I want to accelerate a bit harder from a standstill. I don't fully understand it! Makes me wonder how the car magazines do their acceleration runs without grinding the gears. I haven't seen any publication write about it.

Completely agree with you, how no publication or reviewers never encounter it or maybe they choose to not mention it.. It's been a long time for me since my last grinding. I've fully trained myself on how to avoid it! That means no drag races from stop lights!

I too have re-trained myself to shift this transmission/clutch in the manner it likes, and with that process have eliminated (or should I say virtually eliminated ) the dreaded grind going from 1-2

+1 more And why you can't believe everything that you read, many reviews and even reports here on RL purposely leave out facts or tidbits of information to tell 'their' story as they want the reader to perceive it.

I just experienced this in my 2022 GT4 with just above 2k miles. I tried to do a very quick shift at or near redline and felt/heard the grind. The car was warmed up and ambient temperature was in the upper 60s or lower 70s. The shifter ended up in neutral. I may have missed the shift or not fully depressed the clutch before moving the stick and will chalk it up to user error for now.
