I'm now at 4800 km, and haven't had any grinds in the last 500+ km (haven't been keeping track precisely). I've been doing lots of 1->2 shifts at every engine RPM with no issues lately. Hoping they're gone for good now. I haven't consciously changed anything about the way I shift.

Thanks for that additional encouraging news!

God bless,

I'm at 2200 miles now. No 1-2 shift grinding after 1300 miles or so. Seems to be completely gone! Hopefully it's just a break in thing. I had maybe < 10 grinds in the first 1200 miles and now nothing (knock on wood).

So is this saying you have to grind them into submission?

Model: GT4
Grinding issue: Yes
Gears: 1-2
Build date: November 2020
Current miles: 1800

Unfortunately, I'm adding myself to the club here. I concur with most here that the noise seems to happen when entering 2nd gear despite my best efforts to be deliberate with my gear shifts. It also appears to be independent with car/ambient temperature or rpm at shift.

Interestingly, I did not experience any noise for the first 1000 miles. But it has since happened 20 times and I felt that was enough to warrant an appointment with the dealer this week for documentation purposes.

I saw your video on the other thread and will be saving that to use as example on my end! Thanks for that! I have to say its been a while since I've experience the grind. The secret for me is to shift into 2nd slowly, let it hit the notch, then slide the rest of the way into 2nd. Please keep us posted as to what your dealership comes back with! BTW I'm currently at 5900 miles

O.

I had two minor grinds a while back, but since I started focusing on being very deliberate in my 1-2 shifts with the pedal, clutch and gear shift, I haven't had any grinds at all. And I've done drives where I purposely made 15-20 1-2 shifts at 5k rpm just to see if I could get a grind with a very deliberate shift. None. I continue to believe that this car simply requires a very deliberate, precise shift from first to second and does not like a quick shift, particularly a lazy clutch pedal.

I have been grind-free since my last post (about 400 miles on the car since then; 1,400 total miles on the car). I have been making sure the rpms are falling as I move fully into second. So far, so good with that technique, but who knows. I've thought I have found the solution in the past only to get a minor grind. Curious to hear what a dealer says.

Still there for me. When I least expect it too. It's rare though so I'm hoping it's not a problem and it will get better.

Shouldn't PAG come out with a statement on this phenomenon, given the pervasiveness of this problem?

Are you fully off the gas before you even begin to move the gear shift lever and are you coming straight back versus pulling slightly left toward your leg? If you're getting that sound in your video repeatedly even with clutch down, off gas, straight back, I'd be leaving that car at the dealer to fix.

I really appreciate everyone's response on this. It's good to know I'm not alone.

Yes, I am fully off the gas when the grind happens. I feel like I'm driving the same way as I did with my Cayman GTS. Initially, I was blaming myself. More recently, I've ensured I fully depress the pedal, count to 1 in my head, then shift. When it still made the noise again, I kind of told myself, that's it, I'm going to make an appointment with service.

About my video.. yeah that wasn't the best of production. I was in the parking lot trying to reproduce the noise and was already getting impatient about why I'm even bothering to do this. lol... but then it just kind of happened. Watching the video again, I can understand why some might think I am not fully off the gas. I don't normally place my hand on the shift **** for that long.

Thanks again for everyone's input!

I had a handful of grinds the first 500 miles, each was jarring. The next 500 miles, I had 2 more but much smoother/more mild. From 1k onwards, I had no grinds until a few days ago I had a mild grind at 2.5k miles. It wasn’t nearly as bothersome as the early ones of early break-in but I am discouraged that this may become a chronic issue.

i have also noticed i got the grinding when shifting 1→2 a few times, maybe around 6ish times total? i just crossed 1000 miles, last one i got [i think i was at ~950mi or so] was definitely less bad than the first few. hopefully like others here said it will go away soon and its just a break in issue…ill try to keep better track of how/when it happens if it happens again

Last week I had a small grind going into 2 on what I would call a relatively normal shift, on the street I came around a corner after stopping, small advance in first gear then below 5K RPM a shift into second... hmmm seems to happen a lot after coming off a corner after stopping?

Anyway, last Saturday at the track, no time for finesse, too busy keeping the pace, nearly all shifts near redline, using first on the real tight corners, so fast into 1 from 2 then of course hard throttle and quickly into second and the third on the long straights then back to second... repeat this for hours!

Number of grinds, exactly ZERO!

Go figure...
