A setup with double wishbone front and strut rear makes zero sense, designing a proper multi-link rear suspension that attaches properly to the rear subframe takes time and money. PAG is not about to sink eruos on a platform that might not make it past the current generation (718/982).
You want more grip on the rear so that you can put the power down and have a stable rear end under load. You don't want to have a car that has more grip on the front end than the rear, that leads to unpredictable behavior at the limit and more than likely some form of oversteer (be it snap/bump/or other)

The 992GT3 has a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension.

This.....plus you will need a new body in white / chassis. The 992 is one generation ahead of the 981/982.....anyway it wont work unless they redesign the rear.

Im hearing from at least 4 people with different sources 500 hp. GT3 engine. Possibly numbered. Unobtainium. That would be both amazing and sad because most of them will prob never get driven and go for 100+ over msrp.

I haven't seen or read anything definitive that it will be a limited (as in numbered) vehicle. I kinda doubt that. Now, might it be limited in production? That's possible, but who knows what Porsche will do. All speculation. I think we'll have a better idea when they actually formally announce/reveal. I believe that was supposed to be July (this month), but that has all now changed. I think earlier in this thread someone stated perhaps Nov 2021. Time will tell.

The GT4, so far, has been following the GT3 of the last generation. So it's unlikely the current gen GT4RS would use the newest GT3 suspension bits. Such a big suspension difference would also be highly unconventional between RS and non-RS variant.

Just spoke with my dealership and I moved up to #2 on the list (someone in front of me dropped out). It will be interesting to see how many are made and if my allocation is filled. They’ve delivered about eight 718 Spyders and probably twice as many 718 GT4s so here’s to hoping my chances are good...not sure where I’m going to put it because my ‘21 Spyder already takes up half my garage and doesn’t get driven.

I know I’m at the top, and there is another guy who was early like me to express interest. My SA knows, if they want to sell a GT4RS to someone who collects, talks about how low their miles are, maybe takes it to a cars and coffee once a year; but mostly let’s it sit in the garage, it’s that other guy who gets the build.
If they want to sell a GT4RS to someone who will drive it, track it, post videos of the experience, service it with them, and completely enjoy and brag about the machine; I’m that guy.
11 months and 11,000 miles on my 2020 GT4. If the spec is good on the GT4RS, I’ll do pretty much the same.
I wait for the call.

We've talked about the double wishbone suspension on the 992 here and I think we're all in agreement that it's a no-go on the current platform.
It's just occurred to me though... is there any chance they'd throw a massive curveball at us and include rear axle steering? Would THAT be more feasible to mash into the current setup or is there something about the 911 suspension that makes that a total non-starter on the Cayman platform as well?
