718 Boxter S, as fast as GT4 at Streets of Willow..

All the Porsche turbo cars sound like they're ****ting their pants. The sportier the exhaust type, the louder it sounds like the ****'s coming out. Porsche seems to think that by adding volume and phony growl to an exhaust that sounds like crap to begin with, it somehow makes it good. It doesn't; it makes it worse. If I were buying a turbo Porsche, I'd get the base exhaust to keep it as quiet as possible.

where did you see a 25, that is really fast. I thought the M4GTS had posted an official faster time than the GT3. Edit - I see it now, I didn't know they proved that was an official time, but there it is. Hella fast. No matter, the C2S is very quick

Three Wheelin'
From what I'm hearing, the new P-zero tire is very impressive in terms of outright pace for sure, but may not be as consistent as a more track oriented tire.
Still, on equal tires, 991.2 GTS seems faster than 991.1 GT3 on some tracks. Torque!

Sound is a subjective thing.
718 doesn't sound horrible to me, but then I don't mind the flat fours of old. Problem is I've been spoiled by flat sixes, which are far more alluring. So it's 981 > 982 for me, even though the 982 has a better chassis and I'm more into handling than power plants. Don't get the anti-991.2 thing, as it still sounds like a flat six and is a flat six and sounds good to me. Do agree that 991.1 (especially X51) > 991.2 in terms of sound. But 991.2 shreds 991.1 in terms of torque, and has its own allure if you like turbo cars. I like both NA and turbo.
Do agree that exhaust noise has become a bit too manufactured these days. Again subjective, but I think I actually preferred the 986/996 days where the sound was really engine with intake and exhaust mixed in for the driver's ears vs. the path that seemed to begin in the 987/997 > 981/991 era where it moved to exhaust noise for everyone else and the driver too.
Have thought about switching from GT4 to 991.2 Carrera, and skipping sport exhaust. I know. But I tried a friend's car last week and it sounded good to these ears and nice and subtle. Horses for courses, I guess. Don't get me wrong: The GT4 certainly scratches a certain itch, dynamically and aurally. Hmm...this ain't easy.

I use Sport Auto as my normalized source of data. They got a 7:34 out of a 991.2 C2S with P-Zero tires, and 7:32.2 from a 991.1 GT3 on Cup2s. Hokenheim was 1:09.6 for both. That's really impressive when you consider the difference in tires.

But to me the best example is to watch at one of the many .2 GTS launch videos from the track sessions. Every time the car comes past the mike it sounds like its got a fart can on it. The sound quality is that farty blat-blat-blat and it never runs out to a crescendo. Again, awesome car. Sounds like crap. I honestly think the .2 cars sound waayyyy better with the standard exhaust than they do with the sport exhaust.

No, it doesn't. At all. There's a video out there that compares the .1 and .2 PSE on the same road running up through the rev range. They sound entirely different. One sounds awesome, one not so much.

Agree on second point. Starting to dislike the emphasis on exhaust note above all else, and therefore beginning to wonder if I actually prefer the standard exhaust systems. Some of the recent setups are just way too loud (for my tastes, as well as many a dB meter...), while manufactured overrun burble, pops, "backfires," etc aren't for me. But I know there are others who like that stuff...
Of course, now realizing we are talking about sound in a thread that began with a thought about SPEED. Hmm. One thing is sure from time in the 718: It is FAST even in base trim, and I suspect a 718 or 718S might be pretty effective as an autocross car.

If the 991.2 Carrera wasn't as complete and satisfying as it is, I'd keep the GT4 and/or add something else to the garage. But we already have four cars and...I can't stop thinking about that run up the hillclimb stage at Tenerife at the press launch. The car was seriously sweet, fun, and FAST. You can go along for the ride here, the banter with Mike is infectious, but the car gets all the credit: https://www.pca.org/news/2015-11-10/...updates-wvideo
Then again, every time I walk away from the GT4...man it's a cool car.

You can't go wrong enjoying your toys with your family - my kids (now 13 and 15) loved to go in the back of the Porsche when they were little - just loved how the seats were "just their size" Families that play together stay together! Here they are working on the car and thinking they are having all the fun being on the crew!
