EVO Review of 718 Base Boxster
Not a glowing review. Not surprised. But happy to see someone be honest about it. Not sure Andreas will give EVO any further in depth previews :-)

Woah:
What’s it like to drive?
Disappointing. Underwhelming. Soul destroying. All words and phrases I never thought I’d write about a Porsche sports car, but the 2-litre Boxster is a poor Porsche and the disappointment focuses on the moment the engine starts.

Ouch!! It takes a LOT for EVO to criticize Porsche. Actually, it never happens. To be fair, Porsche has been churning out one hit after another. For a long time, since 996 anyway, they seemed unassailable. Couldn't put a foot wrong. I suppose nothing lasts for ever! End of an era! Long live 981.1 and it's predecessors!
'tmc' quoted the passage I was going to quote above. So, here is another, from EVO:
"And that engine sound? Sadly it doesn’t get any better, actually it gets worse because at high engine speeds the flat-four just drones on and on and on…".
Would all these negative press impact sales? Probably. Enthusiasts might stay away. But, that group might be small. If there is a sales hit, they might try to accelerate the road map of post-turbo, namely, hybrid/electric. NA is not coming back. Post-981.2 platform is the one to watch for, possibly in 2019.

Weren't they pretty positive on the S model? I thought that was EVO.

Burning Brakes
For anyone thinking there's a huge difference between Base and S - it's not. I drove an S here a few weeks ago and EVO could have copied the words from my review of that one. In fact, my guess is that becuase of the bigger engine, 2.5l, I suspect vibrations to be worse on the S. Otherwise regarding sound, lag etc - the S is the same. (and no, the VTG on the S does not take away the turbo lag. It's between a couple of tenths up to second to full boost depending on where in the rev range you are. But it's always there.) I drove to and from the test drive in my M/T CGTS which gave me a good benchmark. Someone showing up in another car might feel differently about the 718. But it's not for me, that became blatantly clear on the 16th of May.

"Get the Boxster up on its toes and the engine working hard (you may want some ear plugs at this point)"...
Never thought I would read something like that about a Porsche. This is a disaster.
