Congrat! I scheduled meeting with my dealer next week, but thinking about if I should wait for PDK version or the possible 25th anniversary model with NA 6C 4.0 450 HP.

Burning Brakes
Placed a deposit last week as well and gave them my spec (code).
Even before allocations, dealerships still put in "orders" to the order book so that Porsche knows how many customers are waiting to buy cars - they use these to then determine where to hand out allocations.
SA expected allocations to start arriving late summer and possibly first deliveries late winter / early spring (take that all with a heap of salt).

I predict the opposite Spyder >> GT4, just MHO, of course
the way I see it:
718 GT4 is incrementally better than 981 GT4 (≈30hp increase, same GT3 front suspension , same "bespoke" rear suspension, same GT3 brakes, same MPSC2 tires and bigger wheels, etc.)
718 Spyder is considerably better than 981 Spyder (≈40hp gain, new GT3 suspension, new "bespoke" rear suspension, PASM, PTV, new GT3 brakes, new MPSC 2 tires and bigger GT4 wheels)
owners of 981 Spyders, please correct me if I have bogus info above as there is not a lot out there on these cars? i know the premise of the 987 and 981 Spyder was lightness, simplicity, "tossability", lack of tech (PASM, PTV) etc, so I guess one could argue that the new cars actually have lost sight of that mantra....
albeit, BOTH cars are heavier (though not as great as magazines are proclaiming because the new standards for weight are differer than last gen) so that is a strike against each.
I replaced my 991.1 GT3 and 981 GT4 for a 991.2 GT3RS and am first on list at dealer for 718 Spyder

Similar to what you mentioned - the Spyder’s heritage is about being lightweight etc. - for example the lightweight top.
But the 718 has the same torque as the 981, and then they go and make it heavier (eg auto start stop). Sure you get a bit more power - but that didn’t really change the power to weight ratio given the weight increase. So what are you really getting for the decent hike in price?
Suspension wise - it will be interesting to see how it drives. I think the new GT3 suspension is a positive, however, it would only be realized on the track (and if you want to track it get a GT4). The old X73 suspension definitely is great on the road - and you described it well with the “tossability” factor - you must have owned one . I don’t think you need bigger wheels and more rubber to maintain the fun the 981 is to drive on the road.
Appearance wise - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me it is a great looking car, but I don’t like the rear (butt) treatment and did I read to get the Classic Interior you have to get a red top - yikes!
Now, if you missed the 981 Spyder last go around, cat is now out of the bag - would highly recommend picking one up. Or may want to look at a 981 given the price hike!
And for anyone thinking of buying one - please, please don’t pay an ADM. These are not limited production cars and the production will run for at least 3 years per AP.
nice pairing of the Spyder with 3RS!

Dealers are always happy to hold your money interest free - whether they have an allocation or not. Allocations are generally based on previous sales, not pent up orders. If you put a deposit down now, unless you get a commission number, you are simply giving the dealer an interest free loan. This may be okay for a limited edition or numbered car but is questionable on a car that will not be limited. You can give them your specifications now, but it is all meaningless until the order actually goes in to Porsche.

Since neither version you have mentioned has actually been announced, you may have quite a wait. Your dealer will have no more information than anyone else but I'm sure they will be glad to hold your money.

Three Wheelin'
The dealer I spoke with is asking for $1,000 which at 2.5% in a money market is $25 for the year. I don't think that's going to make the them rich or me poor. I do remember there being discounts in 2017 on 981 Spyders from more remote dealerships so it could be those who don't order will end up saving money.

I assumed the new Spyder will be a limited production model as before and plan to keep 981 as daily use. Not a track type guy like me long waiting won’t bother me. May be I should wait for the rumor 25th anniversary limited edition and keep both Boxsters forever.

Where did you hear about the Spyder being produced for three years at least? I always thought that GT models are only available to order while the “regular” model is still being produced. When the 992 was released, you couldn’t order a GT3 anymore for instance.

It was noted on the 981 GT4 thread.
