Six cylinder option for the base car?

Six cylinder option for the base car?
Much like the R showing demand for stick GT cars (and RJ's heroic swap), this new GT4 could illuminate the demand for six cylinder Caymans.
Perhaps the 3.0 from the 911 with a set of high CR pistons thrown at it?

If its the 3.0 from the 911 and without the turbo, that will be interesting.

Think there is a very high probability of this ... GT4 does not have enough volume to justify the fixed costs of developing a new engine by itself. Also a economies of scale as the 911 and 718 can once again use a similar engine block as opposed to the 4 cylinder.

This is dead horse territory. If I was the POrsche CFO, I wouldn't approve the business case to put another version of normally aspirated six into the 718- unless the 2.5 T4 was dropped.
The 2.5 T4 would dominate the non-GT4 flat six. Right now I am wondering how a 718 GTS would fare in straight line acceleration vs the 718 GT4. And if a modest ECU tune was added to the GTS we all know what would happen.

Won’t fit with turbos, but this is talking about NA.
The 4.0 in the 718 Spyder/GT4 will only be slightly faster than the 2.5T in the current GTS. A 3.0 NA would probably be slower than the current GTS. However, a 6 cylinder model could be positioned below the GTS in terms of acceleration, but with better responsiveness, sound, and driver fun (for those who enjoy needing to rev the motor to get decent performance).

If it’s an existing motor with minimal extra design work, and it’ll sell more cars, then why not? Customers who want the performance can get the T4, and the whiners on the 981 (718 haters) forum could get their lower power but better sounding and responding NA flat six.

Just trying to apply logic here. Just because 2 folks out of 100 have an itch does not mean the market should provide a solution. Porsche offers lots of "solutions" today.

Sorry but this is pointless! Porsche gave us a NA 6 in the GT4 and apparently it’s not limited production. Now you want another 6 in the base cars? Why? There’s zero point. The 4 bangers are here to stay... for those that want to pony-up to the big-boy engine, it’s now an option. Why isn’t everyone happy??
