Radiator Screen Protectors for 718 GTS

My GTS keeps collecting leaves and bugs in the front radiators. Has anyone installed Rennline’s Radiator Screen Protectors or other brand radiator screens on their GTS’s or S model cars? Does anyone have any pictures of the screens after they were installed?

Yeah, some people have done it on 718, check them out:

The dealer installed them free of charge (!) on my 2018 Cayman S, implying that it was a Porsche recommendation.

Are you talking about the side inlets behind the doors? I believe the dealer will only do the sides for free as per the recall.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they will do the front radiator inlets above the front spoiler which the OP is referring to?

You are of course correct! They only did the side inlets behind the doors. My bad to assume as much based on what I was told...

Thanks for the help. I appreciate being able to see these pictures in advance. I definitely need to get the front radiators grill protectors. I like the look without them but they are going to be hit by something if I don’t protect them.

718 2019 delivered in Aug with Rennsport Grill Protection. I negotiated to $300 for install by dealer. I could not bear to remove the bumper on our new Boxster. They work great. No leaves collected in NC fall driving. My view is not factory installing is design fail. Visually they disappear. 911’s appear to have factory installed protection.

My wife got me the Zunsport side grilles for Xmas. I installed them today. Photos will follow tomorrow (taken in daylight)...

GT3s yes. Every other kind of 911, no.

As an aside, does the GTS have a front center radiator? I’ve seen the ones on the sides in the front bumper.

Yes, 718 GTS comes standard with extra front center and side radiators in the front bumper for additional cooling. S model just has front side radiators. You can retrofit the extra center radiator if you purchase the kit.

Note there is also another radiator at the back which cools the water-air intercooler for the turbo.

I got a few photos of the Zunsport grilles. When installed, you can hardly see them...

The grilles are quite sturdy, I feel that they can take a direct hit with a small stone at 100 MPH say in the track! However, they rely on fitment to be (and stay) installed. That is, they are slightly larger than the plastic aperture surrounding them, so, if they stay upright, as you see them, they will take a hit. I am afraid that under certain circumstances, they might rotate and fall inside, but the job (of protecting the radiator from a hit) will have been done. You might have to convince Zunsport to sell you (or give you) a replacement for the damaged grille.

As you can see below left, the fitment of the upper two grilles leaves something to be desired. I am not sure whether this was dictated by the three dimensional nature of the aperture each of them covers, or just some sloppiness. However, since there is no OEM grille part (thank you Porsche) you live with what you get. It is fit for purpose... (a bit of a pun...).

A close-up shot showing the fitment. As you see the grilles, the right hand side has a hook welded to the end. It hooks behind the black plastic and prevents the grille to rotate forward, if hit off center. In the left hand side it has a blade that is bent at right angles, thus forming a similar hook. The blade shape is a bit easier to push until it clears the plastic and snaps into place (with some encouragement by a small screwdriver if it doesn't snap into place). The two hooks pull the grille backwards, against the smaller plastic aperture and the whole thing stays in place held by the tension.

This is the other side of the car. No improvement in the fitment...

In closing, I think these grilles are fit for the purpose. Not the nicest looking fit, I have some doubts on how they will fare after a hit, but saving the radiators from holing is a noble cause.
