Would you wait or just go with GTS now?

Your going to get a million reasons why to get each. Biggest is availability. If your not on waitlist for next Spyder/GT4, then it will be awhile for you, so get a GTS now. Otherwise, I’d ALWAYS recommend getting GT car over standard.

On a side note, I recently picked up a 718 GTS for my wife to use at DEs. Since my current RS is traded in for my new one, I used the 718 for the DE at Indianapolis Motor speedway this last weekend. Wow was the GTS impressive; what a phenomenal car that truly punches above its weight. I was astonished at the speeds and laps I was running in that little thing; what a car!

Is this really the case re: the waitlist? If I'm thinking about getting a Spyder: worth getting on it now?

I am intending to get whatever the next spyder is - but today I decided to get some instant gratification and get a Boxster GTS and after a nice 85 degree night drive I am in cloud 9. No regrets whatsoever.

GTS now. It's way more car than 99% of us can exploit. Plus, I'm anticipating big price increases on 982 Spyder/GT4.

Congrats! Much to be said for instant gratification. Few things beat warm weather nights with the top down. Heaven.

I have also been pondering this question. 718 GTS or wait for 718 GT4?

I came to the conclusion that the 718 GTS is already as good or better than the old 981 GT4 so the GTS is already a lot of car.

Sure 718 GT4 will be better again but how much better and do you really need it? Will it come in PDK? Can you wait in line and is it worth the 25% premium?

I thought unless you are tracking and chasing times or need the 6 cylinder, then the 718 GTS is probably enough and you can still track it if you want.

The 718 GTS is also a little subtle whereas the GT4 will look like a race car so something else to consider when you are driving around. Although I think the spyder will be more subtle so for you boxter fans why not if you can afford the premium.

I also wonder if the balance will be a little easier/better on the 718 GTS for spirited road driving whereas the GT4 will be more track oriented which is really different style of driving. There is a reason why the rear tyres are standard at 295 compared to the 718 265, that is a big difference in rear tyre contact for what is less power/torque combo.

I felt when I drove the 981 GT4 it had more rear bias/over-steer characteristics more suited for the track, whereas personally I prefer more balance in the 718 GTS and maybe even a little understeer which is safer for the road. I am sure the GT4 set up is better for drifting but this is not what I like but I know many do.

As much as I like the more aggressive looks of the GT4 including the rear wing I am thinking I would prefer the more sleeper look of the 718.

One thing to consider is that the GTS will have more luxury/comfort options that won't be available on the GT4.

Finally got a chance to test drive 2018 BGTS manual today, what a disppointment! The car drives like a porsche, but the sound, vibration, engine were not in par with current generation of 911 (991.2).

Decided to wait for 718 spyder

Did you put it in Sport mode? Especially with the PDK, the default "Drive" mode programming is obviously an emissions compliance thing only. I can't imagine they expect anyone to actually drive around like that.

Yes, I did put it on Sport mode, and that is the only I would drive it on current generation of 911 and 718.

I just hit 3000 mile in my 718 GTS and the sound has gotten much, MUCH better. I came from a 2017 C63s Coupe so I had a huge change is sound with the 718 but the driving capability of the 718 more than made up for it. I live in Los Angeles and meet with a group of Porsche enthusiasts, most own 911's and I drive through the canyons with them and am pretty sure the 718 handles better than most and the sound keeps getting better and better. For the first couple week I was worried that I had bought the wrong Porsche but now I am certain that the 718 was the right choice. My plans were to keep this for a year and then try the 911 but now I am not sure.

If they put a power top on the Spyder I would have waited a decade for it. Rumors are pretty consistent that it will be a manual top and that is really a deal killer for me so I ended up buying a GTS.
