718 base lag
 

how is the base 718 lag on a daily driving basis. have a macan gts whose lag gets a bit annoying. don't think I really noticed when test driving it since i was pretty aggressive but after having it for over a year, day to day driving sometimes the car needs to think a beat or two before deciding to spool up the turbos. i really need to spend some extended time driving one, but not sure if this has become an annoyance after living with the base 718.

It varies by individual. I would definitely spend some time driving one. I drove one and immediately dismissed ever owning one because of the lag. I didn't feel it on the S at all.

I feel it only in normal mode low RPMs - otherwise it's basically not there.
If you want a less "laggy" car (and these cars are far from "laggy" - just drive your everyday CUV with 4cyl turbo) buy something with more displacement or VTG (Cayman S/GTS or 911)

i don't care about having the fastest, just want a fun car to drive every day, that's why I was considering the base. I know I need to spend more time at the dealer, but the lag in my macan didn't bother me until living with it longer, not to mention the parking sensors randomly going off when I'm driving 30 mph.

Moving off from a dead stop after the base is warm, if you release the clutch and apply throttle (as you would in any other manual vehicle) you will stall. Once you are under way and over 1,500rpms, there is no lag at all, and buckets of torque over 2000rpms. You will become acclimated and eventually be able to get past the dead zone without stalling or slipping the clutch. I only have issues now in stop and go traffic on an incline - pure hell even with the hill holder.

base pdk and don't really notice the lag

I have the base PDK. If you keep it in sport you eliminate most turbo lag. The lag is mostly below 2500 rpm, after that it is really linear and powerful.

thanks for the replies. would be getting a manual transmission car. yeah sounds the same as my macan. drive it aggressively or in sport it generally goes away, but leisurely driving can be laggy. does the variable turbine geometry make that big a difference?

Lag feels minimal to me. It's there, but it's not a big delay.

If you mat the gas w/o getting boost up you'll feel some lag. Thing is, that's only from a dead stop. Go drive these cars "in real driving" not stop light racing and you will probably like what you feel. The power band is very usable.

During daily normal driving-I have found it to be a non issue. Putting in Sports mode eliminates it entirely. It is largely due to the current PDK programming. At some point, Porsche will fine tune it out.

finally spent a little time test driving it. definitely feel the lag at the low RPM range but once you get going it doesn't seem to matter. thought that a test drive would dissuade me from the car but damned if it did the opposite. it may sound like me farting after drinking a gallon of milk but the noise isnt a deal breaker for me. I can see how the droning can get annoying, but I'm not getting it for comfort.

Drove the 718 S and I am sold, but I was wondering if the base is enough?
I can't believe how much quicker these cars are vs the outgoing model.
I want to do European Delivery, so dealer says I need to wait until the early winter to order for a May/June Delivery.
Base might be enough? I am going to get very few options. Not sure on PASM and Vectoring. The tester I drove did not have it and I thought it was fine.
