Default Drill a Hole (for Oil Change)

I just read a post where a member said he drilled a 1 1/2" hole on the engine splash panel for easy access to oil drain plug. Sounds like a great idea. Are there any more owners done it? Any comments? I plan on doing it. The "yellow" circle hole location is approximate.

I'm the one who did it. Seems like a great idea. I see no downsides.

This really does seem like a great idea. Would you still need to remove the panel however to get to the filter?

No, you don’t need to remove the panel to change the filter. It helps to have a lift and a long arm.
