EVO Tests Alpine a110 - says better than 718
I wish they sold this in the US....

"Pretty sensational, if we’re being honest. In simple terms, we reckon the A110 could well be a better sports coupe than the 718 Cayman, full stop. That is saying something, but we really do mean it.
How so? Well not only does the A110 weigh several hundred kilograms less than a 718, it also has a higher power-to-weight ratio and carries far less inertia around with it, so it’s quicker and more agile. It also makes a much nicer noise, is built to a surprisingly high standard and, to some eyes, looks rather lovely too."
The chassis, on the other hand, is very much the star of the show. With a classic set-up of double unequal length wishbones at each corner and a lightweight aluminium body and frame, the A110 has all the credentials to deliver ride and handling greatness. But even so, the way in which it flows across the ground, ‘breathing’ with the road like only the best cars from Lotus did all those years ago, still comes as a very pleasant shock.
The steering is light, delicate and accurate, but delivers genuine feel through the rim, in all of its modes. You place the A110 to the nearest millimetre through most bends and have total faith in the front end because the turn-in response is so crisp, without being hyper-reactive.

My initial thought was it looks like a 90’s Celica crossed with a modern day Alfa. It’s really not a good looking car and has the same fit/finish as a Lotus.
But the fact that they were able to get the weight down below the 2800 lb mark is a major feat in this day with the lightest cars coming in at 3000 lbs. I can see this being an alternative to the 718 if we take the looks and reliability/convenience out of the equation. It’s really discouraging to see Porsche continue to grow and add weight to their cars.

Geez, tough crowd here!
Irrespective of appearance (which I personally dig), in this day and age I'm not inclined to say anything derogatory about a new offering that not only resurrects a fabled brand from the past, but also ticks off these boxes:
If, indeed, it won't get a MT, well, I'll lump it in with the 4C as an intriguing proposition, but ultimately a pass.

- Mid-engine (!!)
- Rear drive
- Light weight (!!)
- Something you don't need to be a millionaire to own

The interior is really very nice I just don't care for the styling of the body, had they passed on the driving lights it might not have looked as bad. That center console looks very Ferrari ish, cool.

I'm no Alpine authority, but I'm pretty sure the distinctive set of round lights on the new car are an homage to the A110/A310 Berlinetta from the '70's:
I don't find this new car and its incorporation of the round lights to be a bad interpretation of the old car.
Not trying to sell anyone on the looks. Just pointing out the '70s design influences of the new car and what the designers were paying tribute to with those round lights.
