Default Another Detailing Thread - Arena Red Version

Well it's been warm here for a while, but I've still got the spring cleaning bug. My original intent was to remove my rear emblems and polish that area only. The pollisher was out, one thing led to another, and a couple hours later I had done a quickie polish and wax (no taping off or anything). I used a porter cable with Menzerna IP on a few small scratches and Micro Polish on everything, finished off with Glanz wax. This is my second time using this combination of products and I'm really happy with the results and would highly recommend them (idiot proof so far). The emblems are back on now, but not in these pics (I actually kind of liked the clean look). My car is totally stock in appearance, so nothing fancy, but I really love the color, especially in the AM and at dusk.

Very nice grwoolf. My first 993 was Arena red (hence Arena993). I love that color. I also like the rear badge delete. I am on the fence about leaving the "911" badge off of mine. Good job.

Looks killer! My favorite color too. I've got a Porter Cable random orbit polisher ready to go, just need to get motivated to do mine!

Looks awesome! Now you just have to park it under an overcast sky to get the dark brooding blood red shade out. That was my original color of choice, although I couldn't find it. Enjoy!

I love Arena red also. I did a painted grille and emblem delete on my car and like the clean look. I had a recent thread called "it ain't easy being green" that showed mine pretty well.

Lookin' good. Nice taste in color Pictures just don't do Arena Red justice unfortunately. I had a guy come up to me a couple months ago at an AX and stare at my car....after a pause he said that he never liked the color in pictures but after seeing mine in person her really liked it and that it had a lot more depth in real life. He could have just been saying that because it was my car he was talking about....

Thanks. I really need help on my photography skills. The pictures don't represent the color well at all. It was actually pretty overcast and late in the day when I took the pics and the red is so much deeper and darker vs. what it looks like in the pictures (kind of washed out). I was just using my point and shoot on auto (flash off), so I'd love any tips people have on shooting car pics.

Point and shoots are great, but when the light levels go down a bit, it's nice to have an SLR with a big lens that can collect more of it. With your first picture, some fill flash might have made it even better.

Very nice shots, though.

Nice!

Mine is in for a repaint right now. I can't wait to get it back without those annoying imperfections that have been bothering me for years..

If you have any way to change the settings on the camera, change the focusing method to a center point focus vs. multi point focus that it is probably set on. Then point the camera on the lightest or lighter part of the scene (i.e. bright reflection of sky on the paint), press and hold down the shutter button halfway so that it can register that light information and then re-frame the car in the shot and depress. If it's too dark a shot, just pick a less bright spot to focus on and reattempt. You'll get an idea of how much light to use if you mess with it a bit. Maybe too much info.... anyway, beautiful car and we all know what that color really looks like. So I would just kick back, pop open a cold one and enjoy the scenery!

What always amazes me about the color is the complete change from deep shade to full sun. Here in the NorthWest during the winter months I 've had a lot of people comment on "my brown Porsche". In the full sun it is so different. I've talked to other Pcar owners, and they think it is common to the Porsche's metallic paints.

Gary

The first time I saw pics of the Arena Red 993s on the forum, it became the only color I ever wanted.
