Default Fender rubbing on tyre

I did my first trackday since having the new KW V3 suspension fitted at the weekend. This was also the first time I ran with Toyo R888 track tyres. The Toyos aren't available in our normal front size of 205/50/17 but the popular choice is 225/45/17 which is what I have. I experienced no issues during the day and as expected the car went the best it ever has on track with the new suspension, geo setup and track tyres . However, this is what I found when I got home (left front tyre):

I think the different rub/cut lines are probably due to me regularly dropping the pressures during the day as the tyres got hotter. Clearly this is not good for the tyre so I'm wondering what the best cure would be:

1. Raise the front ride height a bit (currently euro RS spec)
2. Junk the tyres and fit 215/45/17 (the only other Toyo option)
3. Roll the fender arches (does anyone have a pic of what this looks like?)
4. Drop pressures more (I got down to 35 psi hot)

There are no similar marks on the other tyres. The circuit (like most in the UK) is a clockwise track hence the left tyres are the ones that take most of a beating.

I had a similar problem, although my tires were standard size 17 inch. The problem was fixed by having the front camber adjusted towards the limits (top of tire in), then shaving some material off the fender to bumper interface (there's a TSB on doing this for 17 in wheel installation, but not enough was removed from my left front when it was originally done). Maybe not your problem, but easy things to check first....

Steve,

I've had the same with my standard conti's !! Clearences are obviously cgoing to be tight at times and this is the occasional contact that results under heavy braking combined with turning in and hitting an undulation (ask your briother about the strange noised at Rockingham that turned out to be grounding out!).

Have you tried to check carefully to find any projections with some rubber on them?

It may just be bucause you keep modifying your car and these "fenders" (what are they??) was the last straw

Had fun at Oulton, photo's?

I'll be taking the wheels off this weekend so will check for traces of rubber. Not many pics I'm afraid. Just these couple:

More negative camber up front? RS alignment's for sissies. Go -30º camber or go home

I have the same problem, and I am considering rolling the fenders from the inside... either via baseball bat, or a fender rolling tool.

Dont mess with the setup, your car is bob on.
You can corner as fast as the best (thanks for the fun run on sat).

I agree with Rob, get the arches pulled/rolled, had my S4 front arches rolled, wasnt expensive.

Cheers guys. I've also had some suggestions from others along the lines of what Breale01 and Madmoog think could be happening. I'll report back if I find anything at the weekend because I've not spotted any rubber on the arch metal itself.

Thanks Russ. It was a pleasure to take you round again. You've experienced both the old and new set up of the car so it's good to hear how much better you think it is . As you say, she really does dig in through the fast corners - Old hall at the end of the start/finish straight is a really good test of how well a car corners - we were going through there way faster than last time

Get saving Rob...KW are REALLY worth it

Damn, your car is starting to look fashionable in white, must be 20 years old

will check my conti's (in the garden!) for similar marks in the morning and my current Corsa's to see if there is any continuiy - too late for spelling....

no problems here....

i'll post my arch heights for reference.

I run 215 45 up front though, mainly as they are the remnants from the old 3.2....

The important thing is how did she feel?

Love that first pic boxey... it's my new desktop wallpaper. May I ask where you got the PORSCHE sunshade?

How were the Toyos? I'm looking at them now that I'm doing more track days and the 225's are the most popular choice and recommended by my local specialist. I'm just about to pull the trigger on a set of KW V3's so I have more than a passing interest on your initial impressions with the whole upgrade. My suspension guy is also recommending more -ve camber than the RS numbers but obviously at the expense of a little more tyre wear.

Those diagrams are from the TSB I was referring to. Not enough edge removed on my left side when 17 inchers were 1st installed.
