Default New shoes

After a year of trying to like the Lobster Forks, I finally broke down and bought some new to me wheels from a fellow Rennster. Champion RS98's.

It's a beautiful day here today, so I got it all clean & shiny (shiny enough for my standards anyway). Shout-out to adfsouth, from whom I bought the wheels. He's a stand-up guy who I would not hesitate to do business with again. Thanks for helping me bling-up my car a little!

They do look nice - better than those too-many-finners.

Gorgeous wheels. I too just took delivery of a set of Champion RG5s from another fellow Rennlister. I thought seriously about the ones you purchased, but while I was thinking, you bought them! (assuming they were the ones listed a couple of weeks ago). My new rims have no tires yet, and I have a little time until my current tires need replacing, after which I may sell my Sport Designs if I'm still sure this is the right move. With 8.5 and 11.5 rims, I'm considering 235/35x19 on fronts (stock size), and 305/30x19 on rears. Do you have these wider rears on your new Champs? I figured the increase would not only fill up the wider rim better, but also help true up the odometer/speedometer, which tends to read high on stock 295/30x19 rears.

Does anyone else have any feedback on using the 305s on rears?

Funny, I was thinking about RG5's but didn't see those listed and jumped on the RS98's. They are also beautiful wheels. Actually Michelin and most of the other tire manufacturers recommend 305's on the 11.5" rims. I bought a set, & am trying to sell my slightly used 295's. So you are looking at 305's on my car.

I figured with the RG5s, I may have more of an excuse not to clean the inside part of the rim, since they aren't as open as the RG98s. But I do like the open look of the RG98s. Yours appear to have the same faint markings in the outer polished lip as mine, almost like swirl marks or polish imperfections. Mine improved a little after polishing, but I think it must be typical of the finish on the Champions. I'll share photos of mine when on the car with new rubber.

While I love your new wheels, I really like the forks and hope my 997 search yields lobster forks.

PS what do your new wheels weigh?

The RS98s are ~ 18 front, & 20 lbs rear. VERY light. The guy installing the tires picked up one of the rims and went "WOW".

Mike, the wheels look great!

OT - I noticed that you had just finished washing the car (water in the tread groves in the 2nd pic). Do you use any type ot tire dressing on your tires? I really like Wolfgang's tire gel. It is a clear gel that does not have that "wet look" that many dressings have. After it dries, it will leave a slight sheen on the tires and they will look black again, as opposed to gray. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to apply.

No tire dressing this time, as some friends showed up as I was finishing up. I've not tried Wolfgangs. Currently I'm using Griot's Long Lasting (or something like that) tire dressing. I like it a fair amount. I'll try out the Wolfgangs when I run out of this stuff.

They look great - get some valve caps and they'll look even nicer! (just joking)
