Default Type 90

Saw a beautiful 356 this afternoon. It had a "90" on the engine cover. I'm not familiar with this designation. Can you guys enlighten me? Pics:

What would eventually evolve into the 356 SC model w/ the larger engine.... the one pictured is a T-6 B (you can tell by gas tank filler on fender)
