Hello folks. I'm trying to join the ranks of 356 owners, and came across this car. It seems to be a Pre A car, but there's a question regarding the dashboard and window frame. I'm not sure if they're authentic to the car or not.
Being that the dashboard and window frame are an integral part of the structure of the car they are more than likely original.
They are quite often a different color than the exterior as the exterior is easier to repaint to a new color of your choice with the dashboard and window frame remaining the original color.
Thank you for the info! Here's a question.... I thought all Pre A Cabriolets had a bend in the top edge of the window frame, and the dashboard seems very different to other 53/54 Pre A cars I've looked at. Am I wrong in my thinking?
Without dismissing the Rennlist, 356Registry is the place with knowledge about 356.
They have a very active and civilised forum where you can ask questions.
The dash looks like a 55 - 56 style as well as the curved window frame rather than the V shape of earlier. So an early 55 car would be my guess, Vin number from a 54, engine is 1956 Supper 1600. Check for the Vin on body parts, hood hinge, inside braces on doors, right side door hinge area, and door hinge cover. last 3 digits of Vin normally stamped on all removable panels.
