Value of 1956 Speedster in 1968
Hi. Can anyone give me a ballpark fair market value in 1968 (Southern California) of a 1956 Speedster (1600 normal, speedster buckets) in overall good condition? Thanks!

I found a Speedster in Georgia in 1968 that was running but needed paint for $600 in 1968. I only had $400 saved up and my dad wouldn't loan me the other $200 so I could buy it. I've heard plenty of stories of other Speedsters in reasonably good condition selling for $1000 or less during that time period.
For one from California $1200- $1500 would be about right.

For reference value: I bought a 1954 pre-A speedster with a factory 3 section crankcase(october , November and two weeks of december, 1953 or 54???)...thing revved to the moon...
the rings were "stuck" from sitting in a carriage house: smoked like mosquito abatement!
we freed them up up after a gallon of MMO/Tolulene.....ah, the old days...(a common solutions I was using on all the "old Italian" things i was dragging out of carriage houses/barns and garages all over New England at the time...I later that year traded the roller crank engine I had found in a garage in Weston, MA(or was it Lincoln?)and this car for a 6 carb, alloy 275 Ferrari racing car which had been sitting for 5-6 years....
2100.00 for a Ferrari I later sold to pay for my jr. year at Harvard....This car sold for 14 Million less than 5 yers ago....My Harvard education has NEVER made as much as those old bonewagons I scacenged as a Kid....
But the real moral of this story is that you cant look into this rearview prism and say I shoulda/coulda/woulda....think of it like this:min wage was about a dollar/hr
Marlboros were .25-30 cents a pack
a gallon of Sunoco 260 was .32-34/gal.
A 6-pak of Budweiser was .95! 1.10 at the expensive places....
You could buy a 4 bedrooom ranch/split level in the suburbs for the cost of a valve job today in an air cooled 911....so perspective and relativity is never to be ignored....
IMHO.....
