I'm going to revive the recaro group buy order. Please go here to respond:

I just got these in the car this morning. They are Recaro A8s. I found each seat seperately, one on pelican parts and one on craig's list. Took me a few months to find the two, but I got a good deal on them (nearly gave up and paid $1400 buying one from Germany!).

This one was practically brand new!

This one... wasn't
They obviously didn't match and the silver-backed one needed a lot of work. I took the seatbacks and the metal side braces on the silver-backed one to Brace's in Westchester, CA to get painted (no affiliation). The backs are Polar Silver Metallic and the braces are satin black. They did an excellent job. I can't tell which one was the new one and which one was the beat to hell one.
I also had to have the outside seat-bottom bolsters rebuilt on the silver one and some small repairs to the other bolsters. L's Upholstery in Anaheim did that and the upholstery (again, no affiliation). They quoted me about half what others quoted and I think they did a pretty good job. They are finished in black medium pebble leather and platinum alcantara with silver contrasting stitching.
I used Wedge Engineering brackets that I got from Kelly Kim (no affiliation
) and Recaro height adjustable sliders. After reading the SRD DIY on Robin's site, I was a little frightened, but the seats went in really easily! Unfortunately, the seat recline adjuster **** rubs on the center console bigtime. But whatever, there's not a lot I can do about that.. They also sit a little tall for me right now, so I have to hack off the back mounting bracket to get them a little lower, but they're okay for now. Here's some more pics. Sorry about the lens flares, dirty car and the socket wrench on the floor.

Mike,
Your persistance is admirable. Great results. Hope it's worth all the efforts. These are beautiful seats. No need to tell you how they perform. I hope you enjoy them for a long, long time. Take the car on some twisty runs. You'd be amazed how these babies brace your body, and the feedback from so many points now in contact with your body.
Have fun.

Eric - Thanks! Hopefully you'll see them sometime in the near future!
Pong - You're the original reason I went on the quest for the "grail" seats. After sitting in yours at the VCR I had to have them. It took about 5 months from finding the first seat to having them both in the car. I took the car to work this morning and boy you're not kidding. No more sliding butt on the seat. These things hold you in. Can't wait to lower them a little. BTW, does your inboard seat recline adjustment **** rub against your center console???
David - Thanks for the kind words. The cost of re-upholstering both seats and repairing/replacing the foam in the one crappy seat was $950.

Wow, Mike... great job. They look like new. Nice color combo you ended up with.
If you have the heart, it has been discussed before that you can cut off the inboard offending adjuster "stem" that is under the rubber adjustment **** which would give you the clearance. I had a the same problem when I had the SRDs in the car... take a look on the OEM console marks on the driver's side.
Aloha, dude!!!
