My '99 996 car horn has become sensitive and honks if i just lighlty touch the center of my steering wheel. I have a 4 spoke steering wheel. In addition, the other day my car was parked and the horn began to ring non-stop and I had to start the engine and turn steering wheel to turn it off. Do you think that can be part of the same problem?

I would appreciate any thoughts, and suggestions to fix the problem. Thanks.

 

Sorry about the horn thing, salomon. But this thread just has too many possibilities. I mean-the car is sesitive and honks if you touch it lightly in a certain spot and then if you leave it parked it just honks non-stop....or is it me....sorry

 

Let me clarify. When I drive the car the horn honks if I accidently/gently touch the outside center of my steering wheel. In additon, this past Sunday my car was parked outside my house and the horn started to sound non stop while the engine was off. I was wondering if these are two independent problems or if they could be related to each other,,,,and if there is a quick fix solution. Thanks.

 

If your steering wheel is like that in a boxster, have a look at this thread:Horn Problem. A common issue, the rubber bushings on the airbag frame deteriorate over time leaving you with the situation you describe.

 

It's alomost certainly the same issue as the Boxster - seems like a common issue over time - '99 would be about right.

I had to replace the horn frame on my 99 996. Horn balsted every time I hit the brakes. Very easy to replace with instructions on Renntech (less than 1/2 hour including battery disconnect/wait time).

 

I like the horn. It's certainly sensitive but that's OK. I do wish that when you lock the doors that the sound was not the horn. It's too loud. http://bit.ly/2oG6rMB
