Default white faced gauges

I am looking to buy some white faced gauges to help with the poor lighting and to give it a better look. So if anyone has bought any let me know where you got them from and maybe post some pics.

I have an '86 944 and I put white gauges in mine to help with the lighting...It help a little but the biggest thing is the lights themselves...the aren't bright enough...I will take some pictures of it tonight and post them....

I can't tell what year your car is...but
I bought these for my 86 951 and just dumped the boost gauge(have an autometer gauge anyway)
Nice even lighting(needles were a little hard to see)
Not too Ricey..at least not for me.
There are plenty(though few for early 944's or 24's) of options on ebay.
But these will improve your ability to read the gauges.
Or keep stock and just fix your lighting...even more options on this!

Hey testarossa, how did you install those gauges? I have the same set, but the instructions I have are general and not specific to the 944s. Not sure where all the wires are supposed to go (for power, etc.). Also need to figure out where to put the dial that controls the color. Any details will help!

I will get some pictures. I documented the whole thing.
I put the ground under the top instrument cluster screw(upper left-cluster sits on top)
I ran the red wire to the back of my cluster dimmer switch.
Then I just zip tied the color controler under my dash.(like a valet switch for an alarm)
Test your gauges first.
Get the faces all hooked together then screw the ground down.
After that pull the trim with dimmer attached.(make sure you at least have your parking light on) then touch the wire to the back of one of the wires going into the dimmer switch(you can just slide it in for contact(and if your lazy just zip tie it) I did this to mine and never had a problem. I sold the car before I got back to doing it right and told the new owner how easy it would be to reverse.
The new owner has never had any problems with it either.

Excellent...thanks for the tips! Can't wait to see any photos you have. I'm sure I could have figured something out if I had thought about it long enough, but I've been busy enough getting the odometer fixed and the gauge cluster lighting back to something resembling visible...

Wow, I've got the same gauges as testarossa, except I paid $30.00 for them. That was the going rate a few years ago. Fairly easy install, can be done start to finish in less than 1 hour. Although this was on my '88 with non-airbag steering wheel, may be different if you have airbags.

I tried some basic white gauges on an 87 na...did not really like them.
It improved the bulbs ability to reflect light though.
I considered the flaming eye....but...you could make that yourself...in fact 9xauto sells a pretty simple solution.(I have not tried yet)

And on the el gauges. I paid $26 bucks shipped from the same place I sent the link to on ebay. That was a couple of years ago...the joke is that even though the cost has increased..others still try and pawn them off for $70+

The gauges I bought are from 9xauto. They're the reverse glow kind, but I am a little skeptical about how they'll look...so I'm trying them in the NA. After I see how they look there I may do the same upgrade to the 951. I want white face gauges in the 951, but not sure if I want the electroluminescent type or just plain white faces illuminated from the stock light tunnels (but LED vs stock incandescent bulbs is another decision). I've gotten used to tearing the gauge cluster out of the dash to fix the odometer and installing the 9xauto light upgrade/repair kit, so that won't be an issue.

Oh, and Judson...look for white face gauges for the turbo (180mph) from a seller on ebay called driversgauges. They put them on sale for $50 every now and then.

Did you pay that $ 99
If you did it recently you might try getting your money back and going ebay.
I am sure 9xauto has plenty of other part you might need....

Yeah, I paid $99.... I didn't know about the ebay deals...dangit. Might be too late to return them, I bought them several months ago. Oh, well...hopefully they'll look good enough to make me forget about the price. But Speedhut sells theirs for about the same price so I don't feel too bad. Of course, theirs are custom...I should stop now while I'm behind.
