Wide-body Turbo 930 Is Sure to Get Attention

It’s quite a conspicuous version of a 930, isn’t it? In all black with black and gold mesh wheels, it could have promise. It tries so very hard to be a good looking example, but something falls short. Perhaps its the lack of actual racing pedigree, or that it’s a fake slant-nose. None of these things bode well for this K3 wide-body replica. A racing car it is not.

The mechanical descriptions sound interesting. Located in Florida, the Gateway Classic Cars ad states it started life as a 1987 911 Turbo cabrio, but has “over $150,000 invested.” Power comes from a 3.3 liter version of the flat 6 engine converted to a single turbo (even though that’s all they had when dispatched from the production line). Other descriptions of the engine work seem to be similar water-cooler talking points with details somewhat lacking.

The interior is another interesting sight to see, with the main focal point being the top-fuel style roll bars. The doors are also held shut with a questionable rifle-bolt style lever that separates a cage component from where it attaches to the door. Buy hey, computer simulations estimate 240 mph. Never mind if the 4-speed gearbox has the gearing to handle it, let alone the rest of the car…

If you’re interested, it is reported to be going for $80,000, though a separate eBay ad currently shows it is fetching less than half that reserve.
