Um, Some Maniacs Built an LS3 Widebody Porsche 918 RSR

Where there’s an engine bay, there’s some crazy way to stuff a Chevy Performance LS3 crate motor into it. And in the parallel car universe-on-Earth that is the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, literally nothing is sacred. This 1970 Porsche 911 “918 RSR/LS3” from The Custom Shop is proof.

Heresy or not, this was a pretty complete undertaking, and the final result is impressive. Down to the bones, the central Illinois-based shop flared the body out six inches in the rear and four inches in the front. The new powertrain is a cammed, ported, and polished LS3 with a “stacked injection system using Holley EFI hp system.”

The car rides on a Renn coilover suspension, has the stopping power from a Porsche 930, it has a 996 six-speed, it’s fully caged, functional scoops were added, stainless gills, and a new front and rear diffuser. That’s all been finished off with a custom “Wild Cherry” paint. And check out that gorgeous custom leather interior!

What do you think? Have they committed heresy here?
