Porsche 911 Modified by Singer

These gorgeous rides and member experiences showcase why Porsche is the greatest car on the road.

If you’re not already deeply familiar with Singer Vehicle Design and their customized version of the Porsche 911, well, just head over here and spend a few minutes drooling over some pics. Then, let’s talk about these special re-creations and the young company (founded in 2009) that creates them, thanks to an obsession with the iconic air-cooled Porsche.

The obsessively detailed, artfully crafted restorations follow the same basic recipe yet come with countless options. Singer crafts many upgraded components from scratch, but they look like Porsche put them there to begin with. And the most amazing thing about their modified Porsche 911 is that it might be the most envied and universally beloved Porsche restoration around.

Us Rennlisters certainly fall into that category. And several of our members are lucky enough to own and drive these mobile works of art. Some of those folks have been nice enough to share the intricate build process in the forums as well, for those less fortunate — or for those thinking about taking the plunge themselves.

We’ve been following this thread in particular, in which a pair of new Singer-tuned Porsche 911 owners shared their experience with everyone. It all started as anonymous918 informed everyone that he had committed to building his own dream 911 back in 2015.

“I have already paid SVD deposit and got an allocation… [and] it takes about 10 months to finish the car. The donor Porsche 911 has already been sourced by Singer and they arranged for me to take ownership of it. I am now a lucky owner of a 1991 Carrera 2 with a 3.6L engine and tiptronic transmission. given that car has over 100K miles, it is good that Singer will be breathing new life into it.”

But it turns out, he wasn’t the only one with a Singer modified Porsche 911 in the works. As jdcohenmd proves, it sure is a small world.

“I too am awaiting my Singer build. We are on the same schedule. I just purchased the donor through Singer. I plan to go for the 4.0L engine. Let the fun planning begin.”

A few weeks later, anonymous918 has a gorgeous rendering to drool over while he waits.

Meanwhile, jdcohenmd settled on some classic colors: Aubergine with a classic grey stripe.

Seven months later, the Downtown Blue Singer body shell emerged from the paint shop looking pretty doggone amazing.

Right behind it? The carbon fiber shell of what would soon be a purple Porsche.

With the bodywork finished, it was time to install that custom interior. Which, as jdcohenmd puts it, is just as artfully constructed as the rest of the car. Plus, can you sense just a tad bit of excitement as he awaits its completion?

“It is a custom leather weave, homage to the old houndstooth and plaid interiors.”

“The car is exactly how I want it in every detail. It has been a great experience during the build, and I am eager to have and drive it soon.”

Before long, the car was looking complete. According to the owner, it’s the first Singer equipped with optional carbon ceramic rotors.

And as beautiful as the car turned out, it’s nice to hear that the experience was equally excellent.

“The buying experience has been excellent overall. The time element is really no different than waiting for a new model once you know it is coming. How long have some of us been waiting for the new to be announced GT2 RS? My car took a while longer because I opted for the carbon brakes and I needed to wait for the development. I had an idea what specs I wanted when I decided to commission the car, so when I visited the shop it all came together quickly as far as all the details.

I have been updated via email and phone every two weeks or so. There’s a client portal with photos of the complete build constantly updated which is great. As a fortunate car enthusiast who has both road and race Porsches, this car just ticks all the right boxes for me. When people ask me which of my cars I would keep if I could only have one I always pick the CGT because it feels special and this feels the same way to me.”
