Community-driven app has over 100,000 members who have already created a collection of more than 2,000 routes all over the world.

While taking your Porsche off-road can be exciting, and collecting a low mileage classic has a certain appeal, the good old-fashioned road trip is one of the best ways to enjoy owning a fine automobile.  Finding a series of scenic roads and stringing them together to enjoy a nice drive for no other reason but for the drive itself is always rewarding.  The problem is, how do you find these road trip worthy roads? Traffic and constant development are conspiring to make the perfect driving road more and more difficult to locate. Help is now just a free app download away with Porsche‘s “Roads” app.

Roads is a community-driven app that allows users to create, share, search and rate their favorite driving routes. “Currently there are over 100,000 community members helping each other to find the perfect drive,” says Porsche. “These members have already created a collection of more than 2,000 routes all over the world.”

A quick search yielded 73 routes within a 100-mile radius from Rennlist‘s L.A. headquarters, which varied in length from two-mile sprints to a nearly 500-mile journey.

You do not have to drive a Porsche to access or use the app, although a Porsche certainly makes every great road even better. You will, however, need an iOS device as they are supported with Apple CarPlay but Android support will be in a future release. Speaking of future releases, there will be regular free updates made to the app that will add new functions.  This being a community-driven application, users are encouraged to provide suggestions that will help to enhance the Roads app, ahem, down the road.

‘With Roads, I can share this passion with other people who love driving and make my contribution to the world’s largest collection of epic routes.’

Do you have a couple favorite drives in your area? Why not share it with everyone? Roads has a simple-to-use recording function that you can activate the next time you are about to go on your favorite backroad blast. Think of it as dropping digital breadcrumbs out your window as you drive. Roads will map the route for you and then that will become available to everyone to follow with integrated turn-by-turn navigation.

Off the Path auto blogger Sebastian Canaves recently tested out the Roads app when he drove a Racing Yellow Porsche 718 Cayman GTS along the Wild Atlantic Way, the world’s longest defined coastal touring route, measuring over 1,500 miles.

Roads guided Canaves on a 170-mile portion of the Wild Atlantic Way which took him on beautifully scenic roads that weaved along the Northern Ireland countryside through historic villages, past sea cliffs, crashing waves and the lush landscape you would expect to see on the Emerald Island.

“With Roads, I can share this passion with other people who love driving and make my contribution to the world’s largest collection of epic routes,” says Canaves.

Porsche’s Roads app also includes exclusive content that will provide not just the best driving routes around the globe but also give you an inside look into their history and what they have to offer. Want to check out the world’s highest outdoor elevator? How about trying the best doughnuts at the top of Pikes Peak? Perhaps taking in France’s lavender fields is more your speed? Details on all of these and many more can be found in the Roads by Porsche app. Enjoy the drive.
