Porsche’s Sweet New North American Headquarters & Experience Center

Porsche Experience Center

A company’s headquarters should be an expression of that company’s values, and so it is with Porsche’s spanking new, absolutely stunning, and fun as heck $100 million Porsche Experience Center and North American Headquarters. A place just outside of Atlanta you can, and should, visit tomorrow. Like the name implies, upon the compound’s 27 acres, Porsche enthusiasts will definitely leave experienced.

If you can’t make it out there tomorrow, worry not; thanks to Wired, we get to experience a bit of the PEC ourselves.

First of all, there’s a 1.6-mile driver development track where you can take your Porsche (or get a loaner starting at $350 for the Boxster), get teamed up with an instructor (whose probably had pro racing experience), and rip up the wicked course. Or you can just play around on all its cool features. For example…

“A low friction circle, also known as a skid pad, teaches drivers the principles of drifting while a dirt track teaches off road handling skills. Porsche does make the Cayenne and Macan SUVs after all. A tight low friction handling circuit simulates wet and icy conditions on a twisty road.”

The place also has this continent’s only operating kick plate, a device that sends a car into a spin “across a wet low friction surface,” at varying rates of scary. Students are taught how to drive their way right out of the spin.

As you might hope, the whole compound is peppered with important Porsches and race cars from days gone by, like the original 1954 356, one of the first 911s, or the 1986 959 Paris-Dakar Rally racer.

And there’s so much more, from getting schooled on the driving simulator to fine dining at Restaurant 356. So what are you waiting for? Book a flight already. If you’re a Porsche fan, the world is meant for experiences like this.
