Porsche’s 981 Cayman GT4 Is Bound to be a Future Classic

The Cayman GT4 is doing things that only few Porsche models have ever done before.

Getting a crystal ball and looking into the future of car markets is something we all wish we could do. That’s specially true for those of us with a higher number of years, bearing witness to the recent skyrocketing price of classics from the 60’s and 70’s. Guessing which modern cars will appreciate in value is a gamble, but a few are showing signs so obvious, they can’t be ignored.

Porsche’s Cayman GT4 was a car so good, it beggars belief. With parts and pieces pulled from the Porsche 911 GT3, the 981 Cayman became a track day junkie’s dream. Those extra go-fast parts came at a price, however. MSRP in the lower $90,000 range was not the easiest pill to swallow for a Cayman, but those who did are reaping the rewards. Those about to buy one better do so quickly.

Two years later and that $90,000 car has turned into one that will fetch at least $100,000 or more. Although there’s a few on sale, rarely will you find one that hasn’t seen a race track, or one that’s been pampered to a high degree. But this blue Cayman GT4 on our Rennlist Marketplace page fits all of the criteria of an incredibly good deal.

Covering just 6,500 miles since new, this Cayman GT4 is completely un-modified, apart from some small usability and preservation features. Paint protection has been applied to all areas vulnerable to road hazards, and even special bolsters applied to the seats in order to protect them. For convenience, Sport Chrono was activated and the locking “beep” has been disabled. Visually, clear side markers were added, along with GT4 rocker decals and a “PORSCHE” logo displayed proudly on the fixed rear wing. If none of these are to your liking, they can be easily removed. Same can be said for that front plate, which is mounted to the towing eye, rather than drilled on. We think at $90,865, this car is a steal.
