Porsche 944 Becomes a Badass Off-Roader

Lifted Porsche 944 Ford Bronco

We have to admire the ambition of someone picking a Porsche 944 as the body go on a Bronco II frame.

Just like the saying “there are no dumb questions,” there’s another saying that goes “it’s not stupid if it works.” Well, this Porsche 944 currently doesn’t work. But it could. That is, if you really wanted it to.

Based on a Ford Bronco II chassis, and with a 944 body, this mashup that we recently spotted on Jalopnik is an improbable fusion of two polar opposite cars. It could take the very best of both cars, with the Porsche’s impeccable handling, and the utilitarian nature of the bronco, but instead it takes the Porsche’s styling, and adds it to an old, slow V6 automatic off-roader.

Ingredients like that make for an interesting build, but at the very least tit is indicated the Bronco II chassis can accommodate a 302 V8, even if the 2.9 V6 and 4 speed transmission are said to be in working order. Additionally, Dana 44 axles front and rear could accommodate a decent build. But looking at the details – such as it being incomplete – reveals a lot of work left to be done. Visually, you can see the wheel arches will have to be butchered up in order to allow any sort of suspension travel, and we’d venture to guess there’s no interior to speak of what so ever.

If the initial idea for a Bronco II 944 off-roader is ambitious enough, imagine the ambition it would take to be willing to pay $4,500 for an incomplete project in order to complete it. We might have a slight explanation for this illogical treatment of Porsche’s best front engine sports car. The advertisement for the car comes from Walsenburg, Colorado. We’ll let you draw your own conclusion from that.
