It was really only a matter of time until the all-electric bug bit Porsche for good, and the fact that the German manufacturer is looking to hire over 1,400 new employees to build their first all-electric vehicle is proof that it’s game on for Porsche.

With current sales of the Panamera and Cayenne Hybrid at an all-time high, and with the never-ending pressure to develop new technologies for a sustainable (and profitable) future, Porsche is all-hands-on-deck to develop their Mission E concept that was unveiled earlier this year, as well as other all-electric models. On top of that, their parent company, Volkswagen, is demanding that Porsche seek new mobility technologies in order to generate more revenue.

Porsche is currently the second biggest revenue earner for Volkswagen, but after the diesel controversy, and rocketing costs to do business in various emerging markets, the big German powerhouse is demanding more and more out of the guys at Stuttgart and Zuffenhausen. One of those demands includes a fully electric vehicle to roll off the Porsche assembly line by 2019.

According to Forbes, the total investment for the development of the Mission E all-electric and zero emissions vehicle exceeds $1.1 billion dollars. Given where all technologies and current markets are headed, there’s hardly any doubt such investment will pay off.
