Remember last week when I said we didn’t spend enough time talking about the 924? Well, apparently the Porsche Museum thought so too.

The Stuttgart museum just opened “The Transaxle Era: From the 924 to the 928,” a special exhibition that pays tribute to the 924, 928, 944, and 968 models made between 1976 and 1995. The exhibit marks the 40th anniversary of these models, and showcases 23 prime examples.

You’ll get a whole lot more history from the exhibit, but basically, the transaxle era started with the 924, with a bold new Porsche powertrain: engine in the front, transmission in the back, party all the time. To the tune of some 400,00 revelers worldwide.

The exhibit features in-depth intel about not just the 924, but also each successive transaxle model. To do this, Porsche is showing off some prototypes and concepts that have never been seen by the public before. All of which helped advance the transaxle generations, while also informing the rest of the marque.

“The Transaxle Era. From the 924 to the 928” runs through October 16. For more info, head here. And by all means, if you do go, let us know so we can spend some more time talking about the 924!
