Romain Dumas Masterfully Navigates Rallye Monte Carlo in 911 GT3 RS

Driving on ice covered roads is (almost) no one’s idea of fun. Whereas fluffy snow provides at least a little traction, ice is an unforgiving and unpredictable menace. One minute you’re tooling along at a reasonable speed, the next minute you’re careening sideways toward a light pole. Needless to say, racing on icy roads is quite the challenge. Even if you’re piloting a GT3 RS.

That’s why it’s so mesmerizing to watch Porsche factory driver Romain Dumas navigate the icy roads at this year’s Rallye Monte Carlo in his GT3 RS. Dumas is no stranger to driving in treacherous conditions or racing success. He’s the 2016 World Endurance Champion, 2016 24 Hours of LeMans winner, and a two time Pikes Peak winner.

So watching the master at work in this short video at least gives us a few pointers. Dumas constantly works the throttle and fights for traction around every bend. Even with the Porsche’s rear engine traction advantage, there clearly isn’t much grip to go around.

Dumas’ masterful driving led to a win in the R-GT class at Monte Carlo. It’s just another testament to how amazing rally racing is in comparison to other forms of motorsport. In conditions where most series would cancel races, rally drivers just strap up and fight through it.

Undoubtedly with tightly clenched muscles on a certain part of their bodies. Most folks would simply opt to stay home or head out driving in a cautious and deliberate manner. But rally drivers aren’t like most folks. And Romain Dumas probably eats nails for breakfast, too.
