Porsche Enthusiast Scores Rare ’50th Anniversary Edition 911′

Limited to 1,963 examples, 2014 Carrera was an extremely sought-after model that was only available to existing Porsche customers.

To celebrate 50 years of what is arguably the most iconic sports car in history, Porsche made a limited batch of 911 Carreras in 2014 known as the “50th Anniversary Edition 911.” They made only 1,963 examples (1963 was the first year of the 911), all of which used the wider bodywork from the 991 C4S. The engine pumped out 430-hp and 325 lb-ft of torque thanks to the Power Kit that Porsche gave it, matched with either a seven-speed manual or a dual-clutch, PDK transmission. This special 911 had an impressive 0-to-60 time of 3.9 seconds. Porsche only offered the special edition 911 to customers who already owned a Porsche.

Petrolicious, in partnership with the Porsche Club of America, recently profiled a Porsche enthusiast in Mexico who is lucky enough to own one of the 50th Anniversary 911s. Manuel Trueba owns number 1,154 of the 1,963 cars that Porsche made. “There were three colors that they used,” says Trueba, who owns a Geyser Grey example. “It has special detailing like the chrome moldings that you can’t find on other 911s. And it has interior details on all the instruments that are a callback to the first car.”

In the video, Trueba explains how he was inspired to become a car enthusiast when as a child he got a slot car track for Christmas. The kit came with a little white Porsche that inspired him to one day own his own Porsche. “Since I was five or six, I always thought about having a Porsche. It isn’t a brand, it’s a lifestyle. It’s part of you. So, when I finished high school my dad was going to buy me a new car, and I told him, no, I’d prefer an old car. And I’ll use the money left over to save up for my Porsche.” And Trueba did just that, spending the first years of his career saving. He knew that Porsche made a special anniversary model every ten years. When the 50th Anniversary 911 came out it was also his 50th birthday, so he knew he had to get one.

There was only one problem. Trueba had never owned a Porsche and the company was only offering the car to existing customers. “The 50th Anniversary edition was exclusively for those were already Porsche owners,” he explains. “Plus there was a waitlist with eight to ten people and that had only sent five or seven cars to Mexico.” Luckily for Trueba, in the process of attempting to secure one of the 911s he became good friends with a sales person at the Porsche dealer. The salesman called when one of the Anniversary 911s had finally arrived. As luck would have it, all of the other people on the waitlist were on vacation and the salesman told Trueba the car was his if he wanted it.

Now that he has a Porsche of his own, Trueba couldn’t be happier with it. “The best part about having this car is driving it. Looking at it is a passion. For me, its the prettiest car in the world. But driving it is indescribable,” he says. “When I get in my car, my Porsche 911 right then and there I become part of the car, we become one. The feeling when you start the engine and feeling the vibrations of the engine, grabbing the steering wheel it goes through your hands, your body. That feeling is indescribable.” Check out the Petrolicious video for some beautiful footage of the 911 in the Mexican countryside.
