Porsche 991 GT3 RS Dominates Monza Circuit: Track Time Tuesday Presented by Nitto NT01 Tire

When a professional race car driver gets his hands on a 991 GT3 RS on a legendary track, the results are predictably epic.

Soon, we’ll have a shiny new GT3 RS to play with. One with a bit more power, less weight, and a more serious chassis designed to annihilate the local track competition. But in the meantime, let’s not forget that the 991 GT3 RS isn’t exactly a slouch on the circuit. No matter which iteration you’re talking about, this is a lightweight, pavement-gripping, naturally-aspirated machine capable of ripping off impressive lap times.

To prove that point, let us present to you this incredible footage of a 991 GT3 RS lapping the legendary Monza circuit. Piloted by Krypton Motorsport‘s AMG GT3 race driver and team principal Stefano Pezzucchi, the Porsche records very impressive sub-two minute laps on the Italian track with ease. And let’s not forget that Pezzucchi makes his living driving Mercedes race cars. But the fact that Monza isn’t exactly a track for amateurs makes this feat even more impressive.

You wouldn’t be able to tell, of course, by the way Pezzucchi masterfully manhandles the 991 GT3 RS around the track. With glowing brakes and steady hands, he relentlessly saws the wheel and maintains a perfect racing line throughout. Fearlessly attacking corners and overtaking other cars at perilous speeds, of course.

But the best thing about videos like this one are the aural pleasure they provide. In and out of the throttle, we’re treated to the full range of that glorious naturally-aspirated flat-six symphony. It’s almost enough to make you forget that this car, like every other “current” supercar, is essentially ancient history already.

And that is something we’ve come to accept, because perhaps the latest and greatest GT3 RS will arrive and 991 prices will subsequently drop. We’d be more than happy to “settle” for such a car, of course, and try our own hand on the local circuit!
