Porsche 918 Makes a Lamborghini Look Slow: Track Time Tuesday Presented by Nitto NT05 Tire

By -

A demonstration in the difference between fast and really fast.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the greatest cars to ever roll out of Stuttgart. A proper marvel of technology and speed. Thanks to its advanced hybrid system with AWD, coupled to a powerful V8 engine, this machine produces nearly 900 horsepower and more than 900 lb-ft of torque. It would take a really big idiot, or a very fast car to assume you could win a race of any type against this monster.

Enter the Lamborghini Aventador and the fool who brought it to VMax 200 Hypermax II.

Now, since this is the second VMax event, this footage is from 2015, but it doesn’t make it any less fun to watch. We only get the one angle here on this particular race, so it’s hard to see the gap, but it’s pretty easy to see who won. From the moment the arms are dropped, the 918 begins to run off and leave the Aventador. Based on results data we found at VMaxx 200’s website, the 918 you see here managed a top speed of 209 mph, while the Aventador eventually finished the run at just 203 mph.

Again, what did anyone expect? Just on raw data, the Lamborghini has 200 less horsepower, more than 400 lb-ft less torque, and it’s 0-60 run of 2.9 seconds can’t compete with the 918’s ludicrous 2.4 second sprint. It certainly put up a good effort, but there was no way in hell this Italian Stallion could keep up with the greatest piece of machinery Stuttgart has ever produced.

Still, it’s not like this video doesn’t still hold up. We are rewarded with the sights and sounds of two of the world’s most exciting cars as they blast to their top speeds on an empty runway. In this scenario, it feels safe to say the real winner is us.
