Porsche 914 Comes Alive with 2.5-Liter Twin-Plug Swap

By -

Who knew that a high-revving, former race motor could completely transform a 2,000 pound car?

The Porsche 914 is generally treated as the stepchild of the family. Mostly because of their styling, which is admittedly an acquired taste. But also because performance, well, mostly alluded them. But with a super svelte curb weight and dirt cheap entry price, there’s a ton of potential here. Potential that Porsche mechanic Marco sought out to unleash fully. And the awesome fruits of his labor rightfully caught the attention of The Smoking Tire‘s Matt Farah in his latest “One Take” video.

Interestingly enough, this particular Porsche 914 was Marco’s second car and even his prom ride. After using it as a daily driver for several years, he sold it. But a few years back, he had the opportunity to pick it back up and couldn’t resist.

Except this time, Marco said “it came back to me with no wheels, no seats, and no motor.” It did, however, come with a close-ratio gearbox and 914/6 sheet metal. So he did the smart thing and wedged a 2.5-liter twin-plug mill in the back. Marco humorously calls the engine a “four-corner motor,” because it came together using parts from all four corners of his shop.
