Porsche 911 GTS Challenges BMW M4 CS in Latest H2H (Video)

By -

It’s an epic battle of German titans on their home turf to find the best sports car.

It’s been a battle across the decades. Who makes the best sports car, the best driver’s tool, the best all-around expression of the automobile. For a massive majority, that answer has always come down to two brands; BMW and Porsche. The M3 and M5 have immense legacies that can’t be discounted, but Porsche wields the legendary benchmark that is the 911. Over the last few years it’s been less of a fight. The BMW M4 is pretty universally regarded as too soft and just not engaging enough, where the 911 is as good as it’s ever been.

But now, BMW has a new iteration of the M4 dubbed the CS and it’s supposed to finally fix all the lingering issues fans are complaining about. But Porsche has a new car as well with its updated 991.2 generation 911 GTS. To find out which one of these two cars is actually the better one to own and drive, Motor Trend spent some time in Europe beating on these machines.

At least, they claim they were doing hard automotive journalism, but it sounds like a good excuse to have a vacation to us. They start off doing top-speed runs in Germany on the autobahn. From there it’s a day racing around the Nurburgring. And then they head into Austria to go drive around the Alps. We get that these extreme circumstances help really show a car’s weaknesses and strengths, but c’mon. This was just a party on the company budget, wasn’t it guys?

Regardless, it’s a fun watch filled with plenty of sexy shots and high-speed action. And of course, anything with a Guards Red 911 is worth spending time watching.
