Porsche 911 GT3 RS is an Incredible Machine

By -

AMG GT, Nissan GTR and AMG C63 are no match for the Porsche 911 in GT3 RS form.

The video above comes to us from the cvdzijden – Supercar Videos YouTube channel and it features a newer Porsche 911 GT3 RS showing off on its own before taking on a short list of impressive high performance competitors. While these certainly aren’t the cleanest drag races we have seen, they leave no question as to the dominance of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

991.1 GT3 RS

There are a total of five vehicles featured in the video above, beginning with the 991.1 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This sleek German supercar is powered by a twin turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-six engine that sends 500 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque towards the rear wheels by means of a standard dual-clutch automatic transmission. More importantly, the GT3 RS benefits from an array of weight reduction efforts, lowering the curb weight to a svelte 3,131 pounds.

Also, while we don’t have any specific details on the competition, we know that the GT3 RS is running an Akrapovic exhaust system that increases the volume, but it is unclear whether it adds any power.

The Competition

The 911 GT3 RS in this video is joined by four other high performance machines – the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63, the Nissan GT-R and another Porsche 911 from the 991 generation. The two AMG models offer power levels ranging from 469 horsepower up to 506 horsepower in the C63 and 577 horsepower in the GT, depending on the trim level. The Nissan GT-R offers somewhere in the area of 565 to 600 horsepower, so it has a big power advantage while also having all-wheel-drive, but “Godzilla” weighs close to 4,000 pounds.

Finally, there is a race with another 991-era 911, but it is unclear what model Porsche is in the far lane. It has aftermarket wheels and no rear spoiler, so it could be a 345-horsepower Carrera or it could be a 493-horsepower 911 R.

The Action

The video begins with a few clips of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS making a fun rips along an open road with onlookers filming away. During this portion, we can hear the aftermarket exhaust roar and we can watch how launch control gets the lightweight Porsche down the road.

Porsche GT3 RS Vs GTR

The second segment in the video has the GT3 RS going head-to-head with the aforementioned competitors, starting with the AMG GT. After polishing off the GT, the 911 beats the poorly-driven Nissan before making short work of the C63.

The final race of the video pits the GT3 RS against the “other 991 Porsche”, but when the RS has troubles at the starting line, the car in the far lane gets the free pass to a win. While that is technically a loss for the GT3 RS, it beat every competitor in races where the driver was able to get away from the line, so crank up your speakers and enjoy!

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
