Is Porsche About to Unleash the ‘Cajun’ as an Electric Model 3, i4 and A4 E-tron Rival?

Cajun

Porsche is considering a third electric car, dubbed ‘Cajun,’ based on the Audi’s A4 E-Tron.

European sources suggest that Porsche is in the process of finalizing plans on a third electric car platform. This one, plausibly called “Cajun,” will take on completely new territory for the Zufferhausen brand. Cajun will rival battery cars the likes of BMW’s i4, the Audi A4 E-tron, Mercedes’ EQC and the Tesla Model 3. Porsche has never built a petrol car in that segment.

The pure electric sedan will be launched by 2025. Porsche already registered the Cajun name back in 2011 for the Macan. Cajun will retain its Macan roots. It will share the Macan’s Premium Platform Electric architecture, which is already confirmed for next year’s Audi Q5 and Q6 E-Trons. It will also underpin the A4 ETron.

“The modular PPE platform enables us to add a number of different models to our range of electric cars,” British magazine Autocar quoted an anonymous Porsche engineer. “PPE will cater for cars that have normal or high ground clearances. “So a second sedan model is plausible.” The PPE architecture has all-wheel steering and air suspension. And up to a 450 hp torque vectoring drivetrain. A quick-charge battery pack can drive either dual electric motor all-wheel drive or monomotor rear-drive with a single electric motor.

With Cajun slated for assembly line at Porsche Plant Leipzig. The PPE platform is the latest of several Porsche-Audi model alliances. The Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT share the J1 platform. The electric Macan will join the A4, A5 and A6 E-Trons. And the mooted $75,000 Cajun from 2025 in the PPE family. Expect a mix of Taycan and Macan EV looks. Like the 2020 Porsche Vision Turismo in the picture.
