Porsche Pulls Cover Off Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, and it’s a Real Hybrid Hot Rod

A lot of folks still have their reservations about hybrid vehicles, and some of them are understandable. But after reviewing the mind blowing specs of the 2018 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, it’s getting harder to find fault, especially when the recently revealed four-door ranks as the second most powerful Porsche production car ever built — behind only the 918 Spyder.

So how did they make that happen? By pairing a 550 hp twin turbo 4.0 liter V8 with a 136 hp electric motor. The powerplants, connected by an electronic clutch actuator, produce a combined 680 hp and 626 lb-ft of torque. Porsche says that’s enough juice to propel the E-Hybrid to 60 miles per hour in a mere 3.2 seconds.

Backed up by an 8-speed PDK dual clutch transmission, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid will keep going all the way to 192 miles per hour. If you find yourself out of gas after all that, the car will go 31 miles on electric power alone. Fuel economy numbers and total range have yet to be finalized, but they should be impressive considering the performance.

In addition to standard size, the new E-Hybrid also comes in extended Executive length. The extra weight from that additional 5.9 inches will slow you down 1/10 of a second on the way to 60 mph, however. But that’s a small price to pay for a little extra prestige and leg room, we suppose. You’ll also get rear axle steering with the Exec package, which adds $10,000 to the E-Hybrid’s base price of $184,400.
