Latest Porsche PDK Gives Big Boosts to Boxster and Cayman

Seven-speed dual-clutch is now available across the full 4-liter 718 range, including both the Cayman and Boxster GTS, Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder.

Ever popular with purist drivers, many say that Stuttgart’s 718 Boxster and Cayman twins are its most dynamic cars to drive. Now they offer an even sharper package, thanks to Porsche adding new 718 autos to the range. They add seamless PDK double-clutch versions to the top of the line Boxster and Cayman GTS models.

The 400 hp 310 lb-ft 4-liter boxer six-cylinder 718s can now be had with Stuttgart’s seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. That not just sees the cars break the 4-second 0-60 mph barrier, but both also deliver significantly improved better fuel consumption. The other 718 auto models also benefit improvements

The quicker pace comes thanks to the new autobox’s launch control and seamless shifting advantages.  A shorter seventh gear ratio to the manual versions to also brings a half-second improvement in the GTS models’ 0-60 mph times.

Porsche promises ‘fastest circuit lap times, with highly efficient operation for everyday use’. To that end, fuel economy improves from the manual’s 22.4 to 24.5 mpg in the new PDK car, while emissions drop proportionately, too.

The seven-speed dual-clutch auto is now available across the full 4-liter 718 range. That includes both the Cayman and Boxster GTS, Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. GT4 and Spyder average fuel consumption and CO2 emissions improve to.

The GTS PDK models get a standard Sport Chrono package with four driving modes, with a brisk Sport mode, Sport Plus which includes a race start function, while Sport Response is a maximum attack mode.

Elsewhere, a verdant Python Green joins 718’s paint palette for ’21, while a highly breathable new ‘Race-Tex’ material replace the Alcantara seat trim and the 718 Spyder now gets the Cayman GT4’s 20 inch ‘Aurum’ alloys.
