2018 Panamera Ad Wants You to Pay Attention to the Details

By -

Porsche conducted an experiment to find out what people love best about the new car, and a few things may surprise you.

When you watch ads for new cars, you hear statements about how the new model has an appealing design, with models staring longingly at the vehicle. These carmakers talk about how their new vehicle is the most beautiful car you’ll ever see. Well, Porsche is no stranger to that sort of talk, but with the new Panamera, they want to back that talk up with some facts.

In a fairly mysterious new video on the official Porsche YouTube, viewers see the stunning new Panamera briefly, with random people wearing special eyewear as they look at the vehicle. Porsche doesn’t explain the scene, or what you are supposed to take away from it. They just end the ad with, “What design detail is the most attractive?”

They add a link to the end of the vehicle to a website explaining just a bit further. According to Porsche, they held an experiment where they took a group of people and had them look at every detail in the new Panamera Sport Turismo. They gave these people special eyewear that tracks the movement of their eyes. They also tested a group on the impression made on them. The end result, Porsche states, is “pure fascination.”

There’s no denying that the new Panamera Sport Turismo is a beautiful vehicle. However, it’s interesting that a car manufacturer has gone the extra step to prove it. If you’re someone who is interested in getting down to the nitty gritty of every detail in the study, Porsche has you covered. Their website goes over “gaze patterns” and interviews, showing how they came to their conclusion. Needless to say, they did their homework.

Will this help sell the car? Who knows, but it’s an interesting look into how, exactly, design affects a customer’s impression of a vehicle.
