It looks like a Porsche. It drives like a Porsche. But does it sound like a Porsche? Let’s check the tape.

After some excellent editing and an imaginative use of official Porsche footage, YouTube car reviewer and videographer TheGetawayer has gifted us the video below, which really helps you hear the difference in exhaust sounds coming from the outgoing naturally aspirated engines and the new line of turbos.

To be perfectly honest with you, there’s not a bad song on this soundtrack. And the footage of beautiful cars driving quickly around beautiful twisties ain’t bad either. But there’s definitely some information to be gleaned.

So grab those expensive headphones and settle in for a sonic jamboree of the 2016 718 Boxster S with its 2.5 Flat-4 Turbo, closely followed by the 2015 Boxster S/GTS with its 3.4 Flat-6 NA. Hear the difference?

Alright, how about the difference between the next two contestants, the 2016 911 Carrera S/4S with its 3.0 Flat-6 Turbo and the 2015 911 Carrera S/GTS powered by a 3.8 Flat-6 NA?

It’s an interesting audio experiment, and I think quite effective too, as I can certainly hear the differences. Of course, a much better test would be to hear them live. Oh well, at least we’ve got this until the next Cars & Coffee.
